First of all,IMO, it would look really, really good. Really? Ya, really.

How quickly we forget. Peyton Manning is arguably the best QB to ever play in the NFL. He is in everyone's top 10. We could go on and on but this thread is about the future, not the past.

A couple things: 1. Peyton will be cut so his acquisition won't affect comp picks. In order to clear cap, most of the Dolphins free agents will walk and it is doubtful that there will be cap room for any other significant FA's after Peyton. Keep in mind, extensions for Long,Wake and Starks may take priority over new FA's; however, on the other hand, there are a few things the Dolphins could do to clear some cap.

Perhaps Matt Moore could, or maybe should be traded? He has no bonus from what I could see so it should be 2.5 mil right off the top. IMO, he is worth at least a 4th. Maybe the Jags would be interested.
I think the Dolphins should still draft a young QB this year. Not a high pick, maybe a 5th or 6th round pick.

Dolphins should be able to put a low RFA tender on Phillip Merling and trade him. Maybe a 6th from Oakland. They will be switching to a base 3-4 and need depth.

A lot of people may want to cut Bell but I think it is better to let him finish his contract and give Jones and Clemons another year to mature. I could see a 2nd round pick for a safety in 2013.

Dolphins would have to fill a lot of holes through the draft so I would expect them to aggressively pursue trading down, maybe even more than once. Example: Trade down from the 8-9 to the 17th pick with the Bengals who have the Raiders 1st rounder from the Palmer trade. Bengals may be done with Benson as a feature back, If Richardson slides they could easily pull the trigger. Dolphins would acquire their 2nd rounder. Dolphins could trade down again from the 17 to the back of round 1. The Packers are desperate for pass rushers. They were at the bottom of the NFL in sacks last year. If Brockers or a guy like Nick Perry slides, it could happen.

Mock Draft:
1st...........Coby Fleener............TE........Expected to blow up the combine Fleener is deep threat TE in the mold of Vernon Davis(not quite as fast), but he strikes me as an excellent fit for Manning.

2nd..........Bruce Irvin................OLB......Misi had 1 sack last year. He needs to move to ILB. Irvin will compete to start.

2nd...........Chandler Jones.........OLB......Competes to start with Irvin

2nd...........Markelle Martin.........FS.........Should start

3rd............LaMichael James.......RB.........An electric backup to the oft-injured Reggie Bush. James was an academic award winner as well.

4th............Hebron Fangupo.......NT........Who??? I know, but I guess he is so strong it's spooky.

4th............Tom Compton..........RT.........I see Jerry,Murtha, and Compton competing for RT.

5th............Derek Wolf..............DE/DT....A steal here IMO. Dude can pass rush.

6th............Chandler Harnish......QB.........Very mobile, good rushing QB with a solid arm and some upside. Tyler Thigpen, only better.

6th............Blake DeChristopher..OT/OG....Enormously underrated, but that might change, he was awarded the trophy for the best OL in the ACC. I see this guy pushing Incognito for the starting LG position.http://www.roanoke.com/sports/vtfootball/wb/301793

7th..............Darrell Scott..........RB/FB.....Boom or bust
FA...........Sammy Brown.........OLB.........Situational pass rusher
FA...........Drew Nowak...........DE/DT.....Another great pass rushing lineman. A real steal in the 7th.
FA............Paul Cornick............OT.........Might make the roster, but at least the PS
FA............Randy Colling...........DT.........Specimen, may even be able to play the 5-technique. Champion wrestler. Dominated in Div 2
FA............Chris Forcier............QB.........A couple years on the PS, who knows?

Roster:
QB......................Manning,Devlin,Harnish
RB......................Bush,Thomas,James,Hilliard
FB......................Darrell Scott
TE......................Fleener,Fasano,Clay
WR.....................Marshall,Bess,Hartline,Wallace,Gates
OT......................Long,Compton,Jerry,Murtha
C/OG...................Pouncey,DeChristopher,Incognito,Garner,Feinga

DT.......................Fangupo,Baker,Colling..........If Shaun Rogers is cheap this offseason, he could be signed to a 1 year deal for insurance.
DE.......................Starks,Odrick,McDaniel,Wolf,Nowak
ILB......................Dansby,Burnett,Misi,Spitler
OLB.....................Wake,Jones,Irvin,Brown
S.........................Bell,Martin,Jones,Clemons
CB.......................Davis,Smith,Allen,Carroll,Wilson....Allen?? Yes, he did OK his 1st year at nickel and he had 43 tackles in limited snaps. He knows how to play the game and he will be dirt cheap.
Denney,Fields,Carpenter?? Dolphins could look for a cheaper kicker.

All the projections based on NFLDRAFTSCOUT.COM

A lot of effort went into your write-up, but quite honestly having Devlin and Harnish as our back-up QB's to Manning is not a good idea. How Indy's season went after Manning went down should tell you all you need to know....You gotta have a capable back-up. I keep Moore.

Manning is 36 and coming off of a serious neck injury he may never completely heal from. I think people would need to temper their expectations.

If they did bring him in here, I'd still draft someone like Tannehill to sit and learn for a few years.

Matt Moore is not going anywhere even with an acquisition of Peyton Manning. He's too valuable of a backup to lose with the risks we take in acquiring Peyton.

im not off the Luck bandwagon yet...............

Matt Moore is under contract for like 1.5 million dollars and has proven that he can be a serviceable stopgap starter in the NFL. If you look around and see the quality of overall QB play in the NFL, and especially the quality of backup QB play in the NFL, and sitll think we should cut/trade Matt Moore, I think you've been hanging out with Ricky Williams too much.

Nope, 2.5 mil, just like I stated.

My thinking with Moore is that he may be very unhappy with the acquisition of Manning. He may very well be really ticked off right now at the rumors floating around.

If I were Matt Moore I think I would believe that I deserved a shot to start after last year's performance, but with Manning, there is 0 chance of that.

If he didn't ask for a trade I would be surprised. Might just be better off trading him.

There are a lot of backup QB's in the market this spring if they have no confidence in Devlin's progress or a draft picks progress.

If Moore wanted a trade I would do whatever could be done to accomodate him. Why not?? Just sign Shaun Hill.

Why dont we see if Peyton can even play next year. And if he can, why dont we wait to see if Indy even wants to trade him. And if they do, lets see if we cant get someone else in the draft first, or maybe in FA. If not, then maybe this is a conversation worth having.

I dont see Manning going anywhere.. much less to the Dolphins.. If you think about it, lets assume Manning doesnt fully recover from his neck injury and turns out to be only a fraction of what he once was... what team (in their right mind) would pay Mannings asking price for an old, injured QB?? Now lets assume Manny does recover 100% and is as good.. or better than before the injury.. The Colts would not throw young Andrew Luck into the starting position in his first year.. at least they shouldnt.. He will need at least one year to observe and learn..

The smart move, for all parties involved would be to stay at Indy... or retire.

Of course this is all under the assumption of good health.

As far as the drivel about not starting Luck. WTH?????????

Listen, if the Colts draft Luck and keep Manning, it will cost them over 50mil. No team has that kind of cap room, and nobody is trading for a 28 million dollar player who will be 36. That would be insane.

Look, the Colts have fired all their top coaches, they are obviously moving on into a new era.

I have researched the stem cell therapy Peyton has received. It is shown amazing results in many cases. Mind blowing kind of stuff. He could be 100% again.

There is a very distinct possibility that Peyton will be the Dolphins starting QB next year.

I'll skip the Manning experiment. IMO, it's a waste of time, money, and the shelf-life of some of our better players for as long as it lasts.

I can't imagine anyone making a serious arguement that Peyton is the all time best QB. He isn't even close to being the best all time QB.

Peyton was notorious for choking in the big game up until he beat the Pats. His brother will probably go down in history as a better QB than him forget about all of the legitimate Hall of Fame QB's that are better than he is. Peyton couldn't carry Danny's jock strap, he will never even come close to being in Montana's or Brady's league.

At the end of the day stats are just stats. Going after Peyton would be a clear sign that Ross is going to ruin the fins is all it would be.

There are 2 issues with Manning. First we have to consider if his neck is healed and stable. Second, this sort of injury, and it's treatment, often leave a loss of shoulder and arm strength. So even if the neck is healed his arm strength may have suffered, neither of which will anyone know until he can start throwing.

I think trading Matt Moore and using the cap room to either keep Bell or find another key FA that has been cut might be a good idea.

I would love to see Brock Osweiler slide into back of the 4th round. Dolphins could trade down, add a pick and still draft a rookie QB with enormous upside.

Trade Moore and resign Henne the cap savings can be spent elsewhere.

Diagree about trading Merling; I'd rather trade McDaniel, he fractured his hand and hasn't looked the same since.
