what would saban's record have been if he would have coached our team last year with the same players? i say 7-9

He still would have had the same problem of losing his running back right before camp. So I would say that you are about right with 7-9. Just because he is a mastermind and he would have found a better solution to the running back problem.:fire:

What would Saban have done his first year, If he were in DW's shoes and could have coached a guy named Dan Marino, who by the way, desperately wanted to play one more year, I couldn't imagine Saban blowing THAT.
And I don't even like to talk about Marino much! (just because it is a while ago, at this point)

Bates had us 3-3 at the end of the year. No real reason to think that saban, having control from the get-go, would have done no worse than 10-6. That's what he could do with this years team if the team would stop the stupid penalities...

Agreed on that.

To be completely honest...he wouldnt have had to deal with losing his starting running back....because Ricky never would have left. Saban realizes you need balance on offense...he never would have crashed Ricky 1,000 times into an oncoming rush.

But thats just my opinion.

9-7 last season because of our O Line.

Unless Saban could have sweet talked Tait's wife into liking Miami, I think the answer is 6-10. Ricky may not have quit, but I think he would have faced a 4 game suspension. Those would have been 4 automatic losses. Jay Fiedler or Sage Rosenfels at QB with Ricky and a terrible OL is probably worth a 6-6 record in the remaining games.

With Tait, I think this team could have been 9-7. Like I said, I really do believe that Tait's wife just really didn't like the idea of living in S. Florida, though.
