What would you consider a "successful" season?

A fun season would be that at any opint after 8 games, at sometime, there is even a hope of making the playoffs. Pure success is moving forward in anyway with long term in mind.

8-8 is a successful season

Sabin is not amune from anything, this game is about winning and going backwards is completely unacceptable

I think he is immune, especially if the QB play is bad. I don't think the situation is a quick fix, and I do think it's going to take a couple seasons before the team is a contender. I believe Belicheck went 5-11 in his 1st year as the Pats head coach, so even if the team does not win many games i'll be more confident in him than I ever was in Wannstedt. The team may have talent, but the top 2 positions on offense are big question marks in QB and LT, the defensive tackle situation could turn out to be terrible. If everything goes right, than I think possibly playoffs, but that's alot of things to go right, the team is talented, but so is everyother team in the league. I think Saban will turn the team around, but if people are expecting the team to compete for the SB next season than I think they're being a bit unrealistic, if the team was so talented i'm sure they would've won more than 4 games in spite of the circumstances. Saban is immune til year 3 IMO, atleast he's showing some direction and hiring proven coaches around him. It will take a couple years before Saban has "his" team in place, right now i'm excited about the new direction of the Phins which is the 1st time that has happened since JJ was hired.

Anything less than the playoffs and you consider this season unseccessful?

That is the goal but I can go with 10 wins. It's the same standard I set for Wanny every year (which he failed 3 times in a row I believe.) I'm not going to dummy down my expectations because the team had a sucky year. Most of our players are still on the team that won 10 games 2 years ago. Most of the ones who aren't here,... aren't here because Saban told them goodbye. If bates took this team to .500% the last few games at the end of last year, I see no reason that Saban can get us 2 games above .500%...

Of course if injuries crush us then I'll have a different measuring stick...

Since we have been out of the playoffs for 3 years in row. I feel we will go 11-5 and making the playoffs as the #5 seed. But, I can still live with a 9-7 record. Awinning record after as disasterous season is just what we need as Dolfans. Don't you guys think?

we've gotta give saban some time and in my opinion 7 wins would be a successful season for this team. unless the qb position is drastically better than it has been in the past few years, 7 wins would be a great first year for saban, the rookies, and the new additions. we gotta give this group time to gel and we have to have a permanent solution at qb before we can make a serious run at things.

I'll go on record and state that the Dolphins will get 11 wins this year and make the playoffs. I have that much confidence in the talent that the phins have and the track record of a Saban coached team. The Dolphins will catch a lot of people by surprise this year. Everyone keeps talking about the Steelers, Pats, Jets, and Chargers in the AFC... while the Phins are under the radar. I know just from lurking here since last December that other Dolphin fans have quickly learned that Saban is not just another "college to the pro's" coach.

i think we need to make the playoffs to have a successful season...we are already improved because of the coaching change...

Lombardi trophy, nothing else can be considered a success. 6 or more wins and we are progressive which is fine by me

For me priority #1 is answering the QB question. Does AJ Feeley have what it takes to lead this team? If not, we'll need a strategy to find someone who does. I think there will be a similar evaluation of other players too, but for me, QB is the most critical.

In terms of wins, I want to see improvement, but with a new defensive and offensive system I'm not asking for miracles (though they're always good). I think 8-8 is a good standard, we're not used to losing seasons around here.
