What would you say to Martin?

I doubt any of the blame is on the family. what do they know about a lockeroom. The family seems to be supporting the son as most familes would.
These are well educated people to which the NFL culture is probably totally foreign and people using the n word back in forth and threatening family is probably not common place to them even in joking.

What makes you so sure and certain none of this falls on the families shoulders? You can't rule out the possibility. Being well educated doesn't make them blind to this, their son has prob been playing football since he was kid, and if you think none of this happened in peewee league, high school, or college ball, that's just ignorant. This doesn't just happen in the NFL.

Something broke down and we dont really know what it was. Two dysfunctional people having an issue perhaps.

I would tell him he's a ***** for not standing up for himself and hiding behind his parents and authorites. And that's he's a selfish prick for quitting on the team and worse, his actions throwing the team under the bus.

Families Pushing a child too far could lead to breakdowns, not saying that happened, but it could've. I've seen parents push their child to the point of suicide. So you can't rule out any 1 thing just because it's the norm.

There's a lot of truth in this post, IMO.

And I would add that parents who think their kids are being wronged can be the most irrational people in the world. Unless there is something new and absolutely devastating that comes out to change the narrative of this whole thing, I think they have done more harm than good to their son. Richie Incognito looks pretty damn terrible in all of this, but everyone already despised him. Meanwhile, Jon Martin's character is being cut down in public by association every day this goes on. And I think his parents maybe don't see that because they come from a totally different world, where they don't understand that a lot of American men are looking at Jon Martin right now and thinking some not so nice things about his character.

they have never been around the lockerroom in that context. Im sure the NFL is worse than any of the type of teams you describe because at certain levels there is less drinking and less ability to do things as compared to the pros.
Obviously MArtin didnt have these issues in college because he never walked away from Stanford. Then again all colleges are not created equal. You are sure to have more incidents from players at persay Nebraska than players at Stanford.

I think dlockz is spot on with this. I've seen this before. People from a totally different social circle, who are maybe a little sheltered, run into guys from, as I call it a 'no collar' background. It's eye opening.

Take a look around at the guys in the Dolphins locker room. By and large they aren't educated, they don't come from wealth, they are alpha male dogs, and they are products of a totally different era. A couple of 3rd generation Harvard students would probably find an NFL locker room to be something akin to an alien mothership. They are the kind of people we saw in another thread who were absolutely mortified by the idea of young men meeting at a strip club after work.

I agree, Incognito and other teammates prob pushed him too far and he finally just snapped, but I'm also betting there's underlying causes early in his life that built up to this point. Whether that be in his personal life or what have you.

In the end I dont think its exactly as many of us are seeing this. I think its a story of a guy that no matter what really doesnt fit in with our lockeroom(maybe any nfl lockerroom) that has tried but mentally he is just not that guy.
I dont think it has anything to do with he cant hack it physically or he has a vendetta. I think this stuff has just steamrolled into something much bigger than it was. In the end it may be a positive because in the end maybe the lockerrroms need some cleaning up even though I dont think they were as bad as some assumed. Its a shame the dolphins as a whole are in middle of this but we did draft MArtin and we did sign ole frat boy fav InCognito so thats the chances we took.

Not necessarily because Stanford has produced its fair share of top nfl players. This is a rare case at least so far. I am willing to bet there are not any players in the NFL that have both parents as Harvard grads though.
I dont think coming from a good family is a bad thing but for some people it might be a culure shock. Im sure he even gets ribbing for his two ivy league parents.
I think you also make an unintential point it speaks to the silliness of bringing ones parents into some type of player evaluation. The player and his actual history should be the things evaluated.
I will take Dez Bryant anyday over both players combined.
