Tomlin, 34 i believe, was the Buccaneers secondary coach from 2001 to 2005, in which his secondary was tops in the league almost every year; top 5 statistically for every one. He has had numerous Pro Bowlers and worked with Ronde Barber and recently little else. He then moved on to become the Vikings Defensive Coordinator this year. His Vikings D is #1 in opposing rushing yardage (by a margin of 300 yards and second to the Baltimore Ravens' NFL record in 2000 by 1 ypg), #5 in interceptions, #5 in opposing QB rating and did all this with marginal defensive talent.

Can someone please tell me why is not a more serious candidate for the Dolphins new HC?

I say him, Capers at DC and Garrett at OC makes one nasty coaching lineup. We could have the best defensive performance in Dolphins history next year with the talent we have and coaching from the likes of Capers and Tomlin!

I wouldn't mind him either, but I don't think he is a finalist.

Yeah it's a bummer that he's not among the finalists. Of the available coaches, he clearly has the most upside. Mora and Gailey are solid retreads and Cameron was a flop as a head coach already. My guess is the Phins could go the playoffs fairly regularly with Mora and Gailey. But they are not likely to win titles. Cameron would spark the offense, but he's not a head coach type so it's probably not going to show up in the W - L column.

Tomlin is the one who can do both a solid job and has the potential for more.

He was interviewed, but apparently didn't make a good impression, so did not get a 2nd interview. Might have more to do with our decision to nail down Capers long term and wanting an offensive minded HC. Tomlin is pretty much defense oriented.

Mike who? I know Minnesota's D-coordinator. Some so-called "secondary expert". Did anyone watch Tom Brady slice up his secondary on MNF? The Vikings did lead the league in rush defense, because people threw on them at will and didn't bother to run. I don't think anyone from the Vikings is qualified to be a Head Coach.

I'll give you Brady's carving job but overall the Vikings gave up less than 3 yds/carry. That's extremely low. So teams threw because they couldn't run. And the pass D was actually middle of the pack in yards/attempt despite being bottom 3 in attempts against. Yards/attempt is a much better metric unless you believe the Raiders really do have far and away the league's best pass D.

Tomlin is not a secondary expert. He made his name as a secondary coach but he believes in a strong run D first, just like the Belickicks, Parcells, and Sabans of the world.

I believe Tomlin has said he will want total control whereever he goes, and considering Miami will no longer allow it's HC to have that much power...he is not even in the top ten anymore, that's unless he changes his mind and becomes more understanding to just being a HC.

That's what I read he had a terrible interview and will now stay in Minny.
