What's going on with Salguero?

Darlington went national but it still seems like he's covering the Dolphins, which is very strange.

True, he's not completely out of the picture in Miami; probably because of his ties to sources in the area. So that makes him a good guy to tap where there's breaking news in the area for NFLNetwork, but he had such a larger presence when he was down there full time that he seems almost invisible now.

Anyone know what happened to his original co-host, Amigo? That guy really disappeared

He has a show on The Sports Animal called "Amigo and Diz". Its a horrible show.

I have wondered about this as well. At first I thought maybe he would be used as a regional guy but no. I have not seen a lot of NFLN lately but when I do and see Darlington, makes me wonder if they are trying to generate interest in the Dolphins having a good off season thus far and now being selected for Hard Knocks.

Tell you the truth, Armando often has the most realistic sense of what's going on with the team and what is likely to happen. He's been at this a long time, the most tenured of Miami's local media...so he often just 'gets it'.

But I would say he still shows kind of loose morals/ethics.

My one major run-in with the guy, at the time he was employing this guy named Chris Cordero to go to All Star practices and report on the Draft for Armando's blog. It looked like a not-so-veiled response to what Dave Hyde has with me and Simon and Richard in the Draft Winds series. Success breeds competition, I get it. But then Cordero ripped us off the week of the NFL Draft. Simon goes through a lot of pain-staking research to put together a list of players Miami has shown interest in. He often speaks directly to the players or their agents. It ends up being a pretty wide list but it also is pretty accurate. During the Ireland era, I think he's only ever drafted two guys who weren't on the list. The week of the Draft, Cordero submitted his last draft oriented blog post to Salguero, who posted it. Cordero had literally cut and paste our list from Draft Winds, and plopped it in his post. It was obviously cut, pasted and then edited. Certain ways of writing the names of the schools were exact (e.g. "Louisianna-Lafayette" versus "Louisianna Lafayette" or "UL-Lafayette"), there was even several unique typos that Simon authored in the original list that Cordero also had. All he'd really done to the list was accidentally leave off the secondary, add I believe it was three of his own names, then delete enough names to make it total 100 names.

So of course Simon comes at the guy (Salguero) guns blazing and using the dirty p-word (plagiarism). Armando comes right back at him very insulting, very haughty, denying everything even the obvious stuff. Armando's editor rushes to his defense and essentially tells us to **** off. I came back to Armando more amicable because Simon was pissed and his communications weren't helping. Armando and I got along well enough, but the fact of the matter is he continued to deny the OBVIOUS. That's when the Sun Sentinel stepped in, flexed a little muscle and told the Herald people no, you guys ripped off original content posted on our website, you had better retract it. The Herald meekly complied.

What an absolutely joke. Armando knows nothing about football and he's the Dolphins' PR boy.

Great stuff guys. I think the beat writers are just like a lot of people. It is amazing how people can look at the same thing and have so many different takes on it. Doesn't matter if it's a draft pick, a player, coach or GM. Because everyone has opinions and views is why places like Finheaven exist. Some people get paid for those views, and go professional usually because they have proven they are more often right then wrong. I have certainly learned over the years here, that finding agreement is very hard to do. Look at the Matt Moore comment in this thread alone. So many feel he will never be a franchise QB because that is their speculation. Do they know? Of course not. Moore has had basically one full year of starts total in his career. Maybe he is a bust...or maybe he is a franchise QB. But everyone thinks they know. CK and Simon have been doing their draft work for years here at FH and now on a bigger stage. They do hard work, and spend hours on this stuff. Many agree with their views...but always there are people who don't. I don't know. I guess my point is that this is part of why we love sports. When it comes to our own speculation...we are right until the future proves us wrong. So for awhile...we are as good of an authority as anyone. I don't know what is going down with Armando but I wish him the best where ever he goes with his take on whatever team he serves.

Good post.

I see a lot of mis-information in this thread so lets clear a lot of stuff up as my site was out in front of this story from the start. http://www.dolphinstalk.com/2012/05/armando-salugero-fired-from-640-am.html

1) Armando was FIRED from his Radio show. They are only keeping Perkins on 2 days a week until Sid can start.
2) Armando still works at the Miami Herald and isn't getting fired or leaving there by any means.
3) Armando is on vacation. For a football writer this is pretty much the only time of year you can take a vacation. Because from July-Feb you have the season. Then FA and draft stuff till late April. May and June are your only free months. He is on vacation and hasn't been fired or vanished into thin air.
4) The difference between a beat writer and a columnist are vast. A beat writer travels with the team for every road game. A beat writer reports to the team headquarters EVERY DAY, yes EVERY DAY! Even when nothing is going on. While a columnist will only go to home games and a couple if any road games. Not to mention a columnist doesn't need to be at the teams headquarters every day and will only show up there when something is happening or going down.

The personal stuff about Armando about him knowing nothing and stuff I will stay away from. I like the guy and think he is very knowledgeable on the Fins. Different strokes for different folks though so I will stay away from that.

Not sure what has happened to Armando, but he has been on "vacation" for a few weeks and the guys that took over his blog don't really seem to know when he will be back. Assuming he is actually coming back. Who takes a two month vacation from their job? Sounds fishy.

It isn't like he is out of the country, because I still see him oin PFT live every once in awhile. In fact, I think he was on last week. Those segments usually consist of Armando laughing at everything the Dolphins do. Would love to see him get canned from the Herald, or at least reassigned to another job at the paper. He is famous for the "Some people in the organization are not on board" when some sort of news on the Dolphins comes out.

Hopefully they let Barry Jackson keep doing it. I definitely feel like that guy doesn't get enough recognition.

To me, Armando throws out every remote possibility so he can be like "See, I was right!" when one of them happens.

haha, check out the private message he sent some guy on Twitter

I wonder if we should help him out by copy editing his Tweets for him? (It should be "who" sucked...and "Yourself" is one word....so it should be "GFY")

As some other posters here have pointed out, there have been times where Armando did provide usefull info to the fans, but for the most part he has helped fuel the negativity towards the Dolphins with unsubstantiated rumors and information that was known to be false. There were even a few articles he wrote where I believe he intentionally misled readers in an effort to prove an unpopular viewpoint he had, and he would cite "a high ranking source within the organization", and we would then find out the next day that it was completely false. Sure, he may be a nice guy and he may even be insightfull on occassion, but overall his reporting lacks any integrity and I just dont trust his "facts" or opinions.

I thought Armando was on vacation just like all the other beat writers. There is no football to discuss. Fired? I do not know anything about that. I like him and he is a Dolphin fan along with being the Dolphins beat writer.
However. I do miss Jason Cole.
