Max Starks and Floyd "Pork Chop" Womack?

Those are two VERY GOOD players that are classified as RFA..

What were they tendered?

We do have an extra 2nd round pick now to talk trade...

Womack is a UFA according to USA Today.

Steelers want a 1st round pick for Starks even though he may be beaten out this year to start at RT. Hmm, doesn't sound fair somehow. Oh well.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/steelers/home.htm

"â€â€RT Max Starks (tendered at $1.85M with 1st-round pick as compensation) did not have a good season in his second as a starter and will be challenged for his job in 2007 by Willie Colon. Surprise he received first-round tender."

Max Starks has a 1st round tender so I think he won't be looked at by us. I'm not sure about "Pork Chop" because he only played 9 games for Seattle last year.

Well to be honest the Steelers must want him around for depth and don't want him traded. Why tender a guy for a 1st round pick if you don't expect he will be starting next season? Either way, not worth out time...unfortunately. I think we simply have no choice but to go with Levi Brown in round 1. This may be stupid but would anyone pick Levi and then use a pick in round 2 on another O-Lineman...say a center or guard?

Would you guys give them the Pats 2nd rounder for Starks?

I sure as hell would.

I say, call the steelers bluff...no way that they tender him that high and say that he will be challenged for his starting job.

As for Pork Chop...there are very few..VERY FEW guards that are better run blockers than Womack..VERY FEW.

i dont care for starks much to be ..he is old...womack isnt that great either..saw a lot of him with seattle this yr. wasnt impressed...no thanks..get ol in the draft, 2nd rd per say...

Starks is only 25 I believe.

Starks is 25 years old.

Womack is a top guard in this league and is like 28 years old as well.

You would have to be insane to trade a pick for either of those two guys. Alabi is the starting LT so get these silly ideas about trading a 1st day pick out of your head.

We have been grooming Alabi for the past few years now lets see what he can do before we start wasting picks on other guys.

Well we are talking about a LG and a RT here though, we don thave a starting LG or a RT better then Starks can be IMO.

Womack is not a top guard in this league. They sorely missed Steve Hutchinson and subsequently made a HUGE offer to Kris Dielman to try and pry him away from San Diego.

Additionally, why would we want to be paying a 2nd round pick for a guy that is being beaten out for a job by low round pick Willie Colon (whom I'm very familiar with, btw, and I'm surprised he's being inserted back at RT like he played at Hofstra instead of moved to guard)...especially when we have a guy at RT in Vernon Carey who is flat out better than Max Starks?

Nah. Fraid not. We can get better players with the picks than those two.

Starks is better as a RT. We're set there. Womack hasn't been able to start a full season and struggled last season. But he is a typical Houck OG. It remains to be seen whether his success can be tied to being next to Walter Jones.
