I remember seeing a couple of days back an article saying that Chester was saying he was almost back to being ready to test out his knee in practice and what not...

Anyone know what the status with him is? He's a pretty darn solid DT when healthy.

nope, but IMO he should be cut. Sorry, but he is just too inconsistent and can't be relied on. Time to move on with these sort of players. Not to mention he hasn't played a lick yet in training camp.

wait a minute we are talking about Larry Chester DT right?! Cut him, fat and slow? Please tell me that was sarcasm

Hardly. I guess I'm the leader and virtually the only member of the oust Larry Chester bandwagon. He annoys me more than any player on the team. I prefer upfield disruptive DTs. If you're going to be stationary, at least bring along a bit of instincts and tackling ability. Chester whiffs in both categories. Even at 35, Traylor has far superior lateral ability and instincts than Chester. Not even close. I was amazed by some of the things Traylor did Saturday night.

IMO, one of Wannstedt's primary gaffes, even though it's never mentioned, was deviating from the old JJ philosophy of athletic attacking DTs. That is the type he always brought in and utilized in bunches, from Leon Lett, Russell Maryland, Jimmie Jones, Chad Hennings, Tony Casillas, etc. Heck, Darryl Gardener was consensus considered a DE coming out of Baylor but JJ salivated to project him to a pass rushing/gap penetrating DT and it worked out. Also, remember Tim Bowens had plenty of upfield niftiness at that point. One of JJ's first moves was sayonara to unathletic DT do-nothing Chuck Klingbeil.

Absolutely zero chance JJ would have pursued a belly bumping blob like Larry Chester, especially with an aging, less mobile Timbo alongside. We betrayed the JJ defensive scheme in the latter Wanny years even while utilizing plenty of JJ's old players in it.

I heard he past 10 miles on the exercise bike! But they had to get 5 new seat posts during the ride!

FOI.

Fat, Old, and Injured.

I think his heart is in it, but his body is on strike.
