In order for Miami to be a serious contender as we are currently constructed is it fair to say that we need either

1) A superior(well above average) everything else (Defense and offensive Skills set) because of our limitation at Qb?

2) Or if you have an above average QB then you can afford to be less superior in other positions

Thus is it fair to say its much easier to usually be a contender based on choice #2? Isn't this regime trying to be choice #1? the much HARDER situation to create?

Please thoughts?

a good NFL caliber QB.

/thread

I completely agree..so why does it seem like we're trying to create the much harder situation? Above average everything else except for the QB position?

Because winning in the NFL isn't challenging enough by itself.

Sarcasm font.

The coaches and FO obviously have some sort of a plan in place. They have far superior knowledge than us, and see things on the field that we can not see. Therefore they know what they are doing, and I have full faith in them.

Because we've hired nothing but defensive minded coaches. Aside from the pathletic POS Camoron, every coach has come from the defensive side of the ball.

I lump Sparono into defensive minded due to his walking step-in-step with his mentor Parcells.

New gm, new head coach and new "nfl" QB!! A speed rec to help take the top off of the defense and a tight end that can attack the middle of the field. Imagine these things with the adition of Bush and Marshall on the field. I wish they would have taken a chance on Lee Evans.

Both situations are equally hard.

Yes, a top 5 QB on an average team can go far, see the Colts. But it's not as easy as it sounds, see the Chargers.

Last time I checked, there aren't a lot of franchise QB's hanging out at the Home Depot looking for a job.

The reality is, the Dolphins don't have and aren't going to get one of the top 5 QB's in the league. None of the QB's available in FA were even top 10 QB quality and the draft wasn't any better.

Given that situation you do what you can and build the best team possible around they guy you have. I'm sure if Manning had said, You know what, I'm sick of the cold and want to take my talents to South Beach, the Dolphins would have been ready to write that check without thinking twice.

I'm agree, However what i see as a fan is a good defense that has the potential to be great if the wanted a great defense then why not have

1) Signed Ashomagauh?

Overall Good Defense
Average Special Teams
Average to slightly below average Offense (Break Down: Good Wrs; Below to average other offense position)

So....What am i or you missing as a fan? How could the above translate to any sort of contention?

Unfortunately in this previous draft i would not have presented this possible solution but lets say in next years draft assuming nothing happens this season(playoffs). Am i the only that says trade ANYTHING(picks) and ANYBODY(wake,Davis etc) to secure a caliber QB once and for all?

Asomugha signed a deal worth $60 million over five years.

It's called cap space and at that price is he really worth it over the guys we already have?

The Redskins have been playing the sing all of the big names in free agency game for years and where has it gotten them?

In order to be a contender these names shouldn't be on anything Dolphin related or on any kind of Dolphins roster sheet:

Henne
Murtha
Colombo
Henne
Incognito
Jerry
Henne
Sapp
Murtha
Colombo

The point was if were going to play lets try and win with a debatable average Qb hell why not try and make the defense as good as "cap-wise" possible see 2000 baltimore ravens.

Can it be anymore obvious? But we're fans what can we possibly see that the FO hasn't seen and have a "master plan" for. I would go on a limb and say if we were average across the board we would have more of a chance of being a contender.
