I don't understand why the media is making a big deal of a "big splash" what big splash???

We traded for a younger CB & LB which I hope is for a late Rd pick who combined were cheaper than Grimes or close to it. Then we sign a veteran pro bowl DE for 8 million a year which is reasonable. It's not like we spent 90 million for Jackson or 30 million for TE Allen or crazy $ from Raiders for the G from Ravens. I get the Suh deal & in 2013 when we signed Wallace & the LB's but not this year.

They are looking to improve our D & hopefully this works.

We're losing our DEs and signed Mario Williams for a good price. I just think people don't know the Dolphins very well (we are pretty irrelevant) so they just go by what they see in the media.

It's all about name recognition, Mario Williams is a former #1 pick big name player who is a flashy signing. That's where they get the "big splash" from. Even though it wasn't really that flashy of a move

I'm just going to say that there is an entertainment factor to the NFL, and I get it, there has to be... so someone in a chair upstairs feels like spinning the Dolphins moves whenever they make some as "Making a splash"... They have a rich owner, ...theyre in Sunny South Beach... they have big name co-owners..... Just kind of have to accept that that is how the rest of the league views the franchise.

In reality, we were just an active team. We signed coaches that people wanted, we made the first move on the day they deemed "Free Agency Frenzy day"... everyone was bored after an hour of hearing people praise peyton manning. (forgive me).. So they jump on Miami. They will rip us for making a trade, they will rip us for Mario williams 8 million. Even if we released 22 million dollars in DEs and brough in 2 different ones for 11. were making a splash.

When any team signs a new player, the media and population will always point out the negatives. Whether its the contract or the reason theyre available, but in reality players are only available for a few reasons (Injury prone, going to be overpaid, disgruntled from coaching changes)..... But ones mans trash is always another man's treasure.

The Raiders are the ones making all the noise this year. Kinda glad it isn't the Fins.

It's because most casual fans haven't heard of Osemele or Malik Jackson who are getting absolutely ludacris numbers.

But you bring up a troubled Mario Williams and the people listen.

Between the 2011-15 seasons, the Dolphins spent $221,620,000 in guaranteed money on free agents, the most of any team

If it wasn't for last season, getting Mario Williams at 8m a year would have been seen as the biggest steal. Dude, like their entire defense, fell off under Rex But no one pulls that card. But we're Miami so the haters will hate. This is a prime example of a poor scheme dropping a unit. There's no way a defense line that all drops at once.

The fair question asked about Mario is where is his head at. The Bills players feel he quit on the team. So is Miami getting the Mario Williams who played under Jim Schwartz or are we getting the guy who was a malcontent?

Suh was a superior signing to all those previous years combined. Not sure why it's being lumped in with them. It's not even close to the same thing. And why is it okay to pay one free agent $12+ million and not another about $8 million? Seems like the former would be the bigger FA "splash," and that's not even considering the fact that the latter has had a FAR more successful career (vs about, what, 6-8 very good weeks?).

Don't get me wrong, I like the dreamworld in which we solve all our problems solely utilizing the draft by trading down 20 times and landing all top players with those crazy number of picks some always want to stock up on, but unfortunately, every team has to utilize FA in some way.

A similar question could be asked about OV. Are we going to get the player we saw in the last half of the season (hopefully minus all the penalties), or the OV we saw for the other 3 1/2 mediocre/invisible years?
