Is there some underlying personal issue with this guy?

Maybe he has a problem the team was letting him work through or someone on the staff is securely in his corner 100% behind him?

He was the big target FA WR Miami signed last off season and he barely saw the field last year, yet the Miami staff keeps him around.

Leads me to speculate was there another issue not made public that allowed Wilford a freebie last year?

If he is still around by game one 2009 he has to be a contributor on the field in 2009 or I can't understand this.

We hear it all the time with other very popular Dolphins (Holiday, Zach Thomas, JT, Kevin Carter, Welker) when they are let go, "It's a business" so what's the business decision here to keeping Wilford who is highly paid and little played?

I just don't get it, I'm confused by the whole scenerio.

From what I have heard the way his contract is structured we don't save any money by cutting him this year. So we might as well keep him for depth and hope the best!

yup its more expensive to cut him then to keep him. I think he is at least here till the final cuts need to be made. If once we got everyone signed that we want and their is still cap room to take the hit and if he still shows no signs of promise then he gets cut but not until we know if we can affford to do it this year.

yeah, we take a cap hit by cutting him, i'll look for the exact number. lets hope for the best, he's already on the roster and if he can take some coaching, buy in, and perform at a high level we can cross another need from the need list.

i think if he stays he costs 3 mil against the cap and if he's cut he'll cost 4.5 million. so he stays for now

We should keep him and humiliate him some more by making him inactive. This way he won't get another contract. If we cut him now he gets all that bonus money for a single season, and then gets more money from the next team. By keeping him inactive he still gets our money, but it stops him from getting money from anyone else.

He got all of his $6 mill signing bonus already. He's just not guaranteed his base salary of $1.5 mill.

He counts $3mill agaisnt the cap if he stays on the team and $4.5 mill agaisnt the cap if he is released.

i am starting to think that he pissed one of the coaches off but idk it is a mystery

Or maybe he just got beat out. TS and staff might give him another shot he is a really good reciver and if he can play we won't need to get another reciver.

I have rarely seen a WR perform so poorly....taken he got a few opportunities only, but that was because he didnt WOW anybody, either at TC, or practice.....He must be an impostor, cause the Wilford that played in 07 for JAX, caught most balls thrown his way, and some, great catches too...With us, he is even committing stupid costly penalties, hes just awfull!

I heard Wilford and Carey got into it. As story has it he was always looking for confirmation after every play and Ernest was repeatedly using the phrase "Know what I mean Vern?"when speaking to Carey. The coaching staff told him this would have to stop but things went from bad to worse as Ernest returned to practice the next day in blue jeans, a blue jean vest, grey tshirt, and plain beige ball cap repeatdley muttering the phrase "heat pump smeat pump!"

I was trying to say if we cut him he still gets that $6 million without concluding his contract. That would free him up to take it and run then get more money from another team while still retaining that $6 million. I would rather humiliate him and prevent him from getting any more money all the while sitting on the bench like the little girl that he is.

What is the point in humiliating the guy just for the sake of it? If we are to belive the coach talk by all accounts he is a hard worker and comes to play everyday. He just isnt good enough to beat out the guys ahead of him. If thats true I dont see any reason to humiliate the guy, we should just release him when its best for us to do it, and move on.

This guy really is a mystery. there has to be more to his story then is being released. He is not the same guy here as he was in Jacksonville.

Camarillo and London outperformed him in practices. Who cares about Wilford>?? He's talked about as if he was ever a guy with all the physical tools in the world to succeed. He does not have that and never had that. The guy is a SLOW runner. He probably runs a 4.8 40.

I would keep a positive perspective on this guy, he may transform into something good. The worst case scenario is that he keeps as bad as in 2008 and will be cut next year.
