with us drafting Minkah to play FS, in addition to us drafting another 2 LB's (I see Poling as depth/ST), I am confused as to what we are going to do with him...no way he starts over Jones and the LBs we selected are more Will LB's than SAMs (what we really needed at LB)...how can he be utilized? will they run 3 safetys and take a LB off the field leaving McMillan and Kiko? are we going to trade him? I just don't get giving him that extension if he is going to be a situational player, make no mistake I like him as a SS but with Jones locking that spot down and Minkah being a true FS, not sure where he fits in...maybe he will be the Deone Buchanon/Mark Barron Dollar LB or just be a starter at WLB? I hope we dont make Kiko the Mike and try McMillan at SAM please no

He's a super expensive backup strong/box safety LOL. At least the team has injury insurance in case Reshad gets hurt.

Let him play closer to the line of scrimmage. When Miami goes nickel he’s going to get run before Raekwon at the moment.

Eventually he’s going to be cut.
Can we cut him after this year? not sure about that.

it is unclear at this point as to what they're going to do with him. Minkah will start from day one and Jones has a bigger contract than TJM. At this point he seems to be a part of a package but we'll see. They could try to trade Jones and have TJM be the SS but at this point it's all up in the air.

If we cut him post June 1st, its a $3.6M cap hit, which means hes not going anywhere this year.

Next year if we cut him its a Pre June 1st its a $500K cap hit. IF we cut him post June 1st its a $1.4M savings. So ya hes probably gone next year.

Interesting......Not a bad idea actually.

We have a lot of speed and flexibility back there with who we have picked up, along with Anthony and then McMillan and Lippet coming back. I think our secondary and LB's will be a pleasant surprise this year!

Still wondering why we gave him the deal we did when we did. I like having him on the team cuz he’s a baller but it didn’t seem to be a great fit or part of a real plan in place. He’s also like one screw up from being suspended awhile.

Only about 2.5 million bucks is what he’s getting paid.

@ckparrothead made a lot of great points about him and why he shouldn’t be the reason Miami doesn’t draft Derwin or Minkah. Maybe he’ll chime in but it was all over his twitter feed.

I recall an article where the Phin-in-charge of this (I don’t remember if Grier was still acting puppet or if we let T-Baum handle it) mentioned they had no idea that TJ would still be around after the main free agent signing period, so they brought him in on the cheap.

So if it feels like he was acquired just to have extra talent on the team, with no real plan in mind, it’s because your right. That’s what happened. They didn’t plan on him staying available for a low price last offseason.
