It seems like a foregone conclusion that the Miami Dolphins are going to take a wide receiver with one of their first four draft picks next month. No matter what receiver the Dolphins choose, it is going to take them a few seasons to adapt to the speed and schemes of the NFL. A way that Miami could make up for that transition period is by bringing in a veteran wideout. So, why aren't the Dolphins trying to get Torry Holt?

I always loved Holt and Bruce, but they are too old. This regime has made it clear that it is all for the youth movement, Ferguson aside....and if they could get younger there...they will...

He just isn't worth bringing in imo. I still think he has 2 or 3 good years left in him but we don't really need a guy like him anymore, cuz Penny doesn't fully use number ones. He spreads the ball around to much, which isn't a bad thing

It came down to the following:
Age
$$$
We love to homegrow our own product
Chubbs

This draft has a lot of quality on receivers, but don't discount the option of hiring (for the right price) Torry or other mature FA, one entering to sweet the growing pains we may have with our young players.

I thought we were trying to build a team, not stock it with guys that are ready to go to the retirement home.

Basically we're building a real team here and unlike the pats (who are obviously in panic mode signing every geezer they can find in FA) we don't need players from the past, we want the playmakers of the future. Ginn and Camarillo are both solid receivers with 2 years under their belt and Bess is an up and coming sophmore. We basically have 3 #2 receivers right now and if we draft another someone is bound to emerge as the #1. Adding Holt would do nothing but give us yet another #2, something we dont need.

Some of these posts KILL me...

NO ONE over 30 is allowed on this team, huh?

Best way to win a Super Bowl is to get the most players under 30 years old, right?

This board gets too ridiculous sometimes

Maybe its a way of keeping other teams guessing. By not signing a WR now, we can keep some teams thinking that were gonna draft one at 25. Maybe Parcells wants somebody to drop...

Everyone one this forum merely talks about age and how we will not get certain players because of their age. I believe that is not the case. I beleive that we would be willing to look at an prime veteran player but absolutely will not pay market value for them. If veteran players were willing to take pay cuts and sign a contract for a value that is not the most being offered to them then I am pretty confident that Miami would consider. The problem is players like Holt, Harrison, etc still beleive they deserve top money and still put the price as one of their top priorities.

i DO NOT want Torry. Just thought i would go on record. I rather grab Nicks or Britt in the draft

I think people are seriously underestimating how much Torry Holt has left in the tank. I dont see why it would be such a bad idea to get him here. If we draft a WR, its gonna take him a while to get into the groove in the offense. And I'm not talking 4 weeks, I'm talking 2 years.

We're seeing the same thing with Ginn and I'm not sure there are that many WRs in this draft (where we are drafting) that will be more talented than him. Why put everything on a rookie? Just draft someone AND sign Torry Holt. I dont understand why that is such a big deal.

I think when most fans look at building a roster they're thinking about the next season. Most teams are looking at a 4 or 5 year window, it's a building process. By the time the keys are handed over to Henne and he has 2 or 3 years under his belt Holt will be retired. Think of how the 90's Cowboys matured together. I think that's the goal.
