Has anyone noticed that the field always looks like that in New England? It looked terrible two weeks before that when they were playing Denver. If the ground gives way under his plant foot, then I'm not sure how much you can blame Mare for.
However, he misses too many kicks on the Marlins' infield dirt. I know the surface sucks and the Marlins need their own stadium, but this should be a homefield advantage for Mare. He should practice on the dirt often enough that he is comfortable kicking on it, because he has to deal with it for 2-3 games every year. Remember against New England in 2003 where he missed two chip shots, either of which would have won the game? I don't remember the exact records at the time (I think Miami had one loss, and New England had two, and I know Miami was ahead of New England in the standings), and a win in that game would have been huge. Instead, New England didn't lose another game the rest of the season, and Miami missed the play-offs.
