I was thinking about this. Our running game seems to be lacking quite a bit lately. We have 2 good backs. I have a feeling its they way that they are used. I think both Ricky and Ronnie need a consistant dose of carries in order to get into a "Groove". But before that happens, the hot runningback gets yanked and the other is put in. I would like to see a full game of only Ronnie Brown running 20-25 times.

for instance, during the broncos game, ronnie ripped off a real nice run. 30 yards or so. then, he was on the sideline and we didn't see him until a few drives later?

I would also like to see more plays besides wildcat that have ronnie and ricky in at the same time. I would like to see a double backfield, swing one out left, one out right, run a screen, have one go to the middle of the field and turn around. you can do a lot.

I don't think the ronnie 5 carries, ricky 3 carries, ronnie 5 carries, ricky 3 carries is working.

I think one of the problems is that when it is time to line up and play smash mouth football (defense knows its going to be a run, lets see if they can stop it) out of a regular formation (I-Formation) the o-line struggles.

Good and we are winning regardless, lets them save the big games when we need it!!!

Sparano mentioned that he's unhappy with the run blocking.

good questions.one i would think ,is that teams know for sure that if ronnie goes off=100 plus .they will get beat for sure.they just would rather take on penny.we are 4-4 so who knows what will happen.but the defense is playing better, thats a big key.we dont run many screens, but the ones we do seem to work very well.the one thing i would like to see is a 3 wr set on 1st and 2nd downs.spreading the defense out and getting rid of the safetys.maybe the are saving ronnie for later in the year, bad weather and all.the guards and center seem to be getting clogged in the middle some .most of the bigger runs are coming towards the tackles.but what is crazy,is the protection penny gets from the o line.if you watch penny now.on his 5 step drops , he is stepping up into the pocket.he just has alot of confidence he's not going to get crushed , and its turned his whole game around.go fins

I think it will stay a problem until the OL can open up a hole larger than the width of a slice of bread OR when the defense sells out to protect against the pass. We need one real good run blocker on our line before we can start running the ball on a regular and productive basis.

you do mean one more, right....cause Jake Long is one hell of a run blocker. Even on plays that don't gain, he's puched his guy 2-3 yards off the ball.

Yes one more, it takes 2 to open up a hole. When you have one, it just pushes the linel to one side and your back just ends up slamming into a wall anyway.

I think it is the Oline moreso than Ronnie and Ricky sharing carries. In the Denver game it looked like they were selling out to stop the run. I am glad the Oline can pass block effectively and we can make teams pay through the air. I would love to see Bess start really getting involved in the slot. That should really make the D think twice about playing 8 in the box.

That being said, I too would like to see more of Ronnie and less of Ricky. However, having both share the load should make both have longer and more effective careers.

Instead of the wildcat, I would like to see more spread schemes and run out of it. Then later in the year, pull the wildcat out again. With how patient Ronnie is trying to find a hole, he should be able to take a couple steps toward the line and find somebody open.

The Broncos had 8 in the box and sometimes 9. We probably ran to our strong side over 90% of the time. What we need to do is use more 3 wide formation and run out of it. That would drop the safety back and spread out the dbs.

It's been said and said again. When teams gameplan for the Dolphins, the first thing they gameplan against is the run. If they stack 8 in the box, there's not much you can do.

Q&A: Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano

I'll let Coach Sparano answer that question for you.

(On what caught his eye that didn't go right at Denver) - "We didn't run block well enough again, so we didn't run block well enough. We went into the game wanting to do it, we did it. We ran the ball 27 times yesterday. It just wasn't good enough. You're not going to win in December like that. All of this other talk about getting into any of these 'visions' that everybody has down the road, if you don't run the ball, you're not getting there. We need to be able to do that. We need to get better at it. At times yesterday, we were okay with it, but it wasn't good enough....

It seems like Miami runs up the middle or to the right a lot. Would like they'd run behind Long and Smiley more but that's way I am a coach potato and their NFL coaches. Don't know if it's because the Wildcat is always run to the left or what but run blocking is Long's strong suit and Smitley is pretty rude with guys too on run blocking down field. Plus as great as Miami's passing game is I think a lot of coaches are still skeptical about Miami's passing game, I mean come on Camarillo(sp) and Pennington? Outside or Miami I would make you prove to beat me with them and focus on Ronnie and Ricky as well. Thankfully for us Miami is beating teams with this right now.

I was chalking up this year to learning and wanting to see improvement. Never dreamed we'd see progress the way we have so far. Still have a long way to go but plenty to be excited about. Next we need to see the Special Teams bust out. When Ted takes on to the house I will probably be heard down in Miami from my recliner here in Iowa. It will be awesome to see the players once that happens, and it will happen.

On alot of the runs against Denver when they would hand it to Ronnie Brown he would have guys in his face immediatly. I dont care if your Jim Brown you just cant go anywhere when that happens.
