I know exactly what I am talking about, the Lions are improved, but they still suck. Could you imagine how the fan base would have acted if Sparano won only 8 games in his first two years after 1-15?

Mayhew and Schwartz inherited an 0-16 team and has a record of 8-24 in their first two seasons and fans still support them. Ireland and Sparano inherited a 1-15 team and had a record of 18-14 their first two seasons, a trip to the playoffs and a division title and the fans were already starting to call for their heads. I stand by my statement about the fans.

I do not want them to be like one of those teams. Sorry. The fact that people are upset shows that they care. Teams like the ones you mentioned don't really try to improve because the owners know that fans will show up either way, since there's not much else to do in those cities.

We have good quality in my opinion and I think this team will do a hellavah lot better than most of these "fans" seem to believe. I see a lot of young talent acquired through these drafts that are blowing me away. (Jimmy Wilson, Moore, Gates, Long, Hartline, Bess, Carpenter, Odrick, Misi, Reshard Jones was 5th round, Vontae, Sean Smith) WHO THE F*** said the dolphins don't develop young talent?!?! I've read that on these forums as well....Remember the Superbowl bound Dallas team last year?! Their fans and media were convinced they were that best and they sucked horribly.

Did you guys pick Arizona to play Pittsburg in the superbowl a few years ago? how about Chicago winning the division from GreenBay, Oakland going 6-0 in their division?! STOP thinking you guys are experts (who go around posting who we should and should not get...like Brady Quinn ) and can run this team with your eyes closed. Ross as done everything he can to get this team going straight.

And what the heck with seeing a couple people post the Fins not taking chances like Vick, Wtf who the hell would have thought vick would turn into what he did? McNabb is washed up, and Orton is NOT as good as you think he is. We all wanted Culpepper?!?! Feely?!?! Remember shouting for Rosenfels to get a chance once upon a time?!?! Screw this, I'm excited for the new season to start. Support your friggin team and stop being a hater.

Edit: Don't Forget about the Free Agent Pickups like Dansby, Wake, Marshall, Burnett, Trading for cb Sapp, and teh like this team has done to get better. Bush for excitment?! Our owner has spent a lot of money in the free agent world as well, even for bust like Smiley...we have some close and tought losses last year...I"m not giving up on this team!!

And let's see: The first 3 you mentioned play in cities with not much else to do, the Texans aren't even 10 years old yet, and as crappy as the Redskins have been lately, their fan base has seen 3 Super Bowl wins since our last one.

No, I will not go root for those teams, I am a Dolphins fan. Always have been, always will be. I am not OK with "mediocrity", but I am also not OK with bandwagon negative fans. I don't live in Florida, so I can't go to every home game, but being out of state allows me to see what is going on elsewhere in NFL cities and I can see a big problem with the Dolphin fan base.

My first Dolphins game in Miami was the 2000 playoff game against the Colts. I just happened to be in Florida(Orlando) the week they were up in New England and the weekend after. After the Dolphins won the division title I thought it would be really cool to drive down to Miami and see the playoff game. Though I thought tickets would be impossible to get. Called up, and I had a wide variety of tickets to choose from. Not only that, the game ended up being blacked out in Miami because they didn't sell out the stadium.

Since that season, I make a special trip down from Pennsylvania to see the Dolphins play in Miami. It is a shame to say, but every time the stadium is far from being filled and a lot of the fans at the game are not even Dolphins fans. Last year I was at the Bears game and the year before that the Saints game. Both games had a fair share of empty seats and I would say the stadium had close to 40% Saints and Bears fans. It was really pathetic last year because the game against the Bears was a prime time night game when the Dolphins were in the thick of the playoff race. Thousands of empty seats and Bears fans everywhere. I thought I was in Chicago when I went to my seat.

Everyone talks about how this team needs a new QB, or new coach, or new GM or new owner. Maybe we need an upgrade to the fan base also? I know some of you don't want to here this, but this is a big problem and became a national laughingstock with the whole "We want Orton" chant at the FREE practice at Sun Life Stadium.

The other prominent excuse I get from Dolphins fan is exactly what you said. "play in cities with not much else to do". That is the oldest most pathetic excuse out there. The Dolphins play a regular season home game 8 times per year. There are 365 days in a year, so a season ticket holder would have to commit 2.2% of their year to attending the games. Is there so much to do in Miami that you can't spare 8 days(we are only talking in most cases a commitment of 4-6 hours in these days) to go to a game? If you don't fish, will the fish go away? Will the ocean go away that you can't swim the next day? Come on now.

If the Dolphins have a losing season, Sparano will be gone, Ireland might be gone and they will probably draft a first round quarterback. Everything the fans seem to be yelling for. Still though, the fans will still stay at home, the stadium will have empty seats and opponents fans will fill the stadium. That problem will never go away and is a major problem that most of you are blind to.

A lot of great points Nubs. The fan base is horrible in Miami but it's not just the Dolphins. No one shows up at Heat games until the second quarter. It's a head scratcher. But I think you're off on time being the issue. I think it's more about money. The NFL is pricing itself out of the average Joes range and into corporate Americas pocket.

Miami is a transient city full of transplants that continue to root for their home teams. It sucks, but it is what it is. The fact that they haven't done **** in so long doesn't help, either. The playoff blackouts were embarassing, but It's not the only team it's happened to. In fact, the Cardinals had a playoff game blacked out the year they went to the Super Bowl. It is a problem all through South Florida. I don't know how it happened, but in addition to being a Dolphins fan, I am also a Florida Panthers fan. I have been to a few games and they have empty seats also. Though I can understand the frustrating point there because they do have the longest playoff drought in the NHL. The Buffalo Bills have the longest playoff drought in the NFL and they fill their stadium every week. The Dolphins can have a playoff home game that doesn't fill up and has a lot of fans for the other team.

The NFL is certainly going overboard with their prices. I paid a good amount of money for my tickets to the MNF opener this year against the Patriots. Still though, even with their prices going up, are you telling me this is only a problem in Miami? Is Buffalo a rich city? Detroit? Cleveland? Is paying to go to a game such a pain for the citizens of Miami that people from New Orleans, Detroit, Chicago have no problem paying for the tickets, hotel rooms and flights?

Paid attendance and actual attendance are two different things. Local companies and TV stations usually buy up a lot of remaining tickets to prevent blackouts. The attendance is far less than what actually shows up, and as I have already said about 40% of those that do attend are rooting for the other team.

I get that Miami is a big transplant area. I have heard that people from New York make up a large group that end up moving down to Florida. But are there really that many transplants from places like Detroit, Chicago, New Orleans, San Francisco, Oakland, etc. that they always have a large contingent of fans at the game? Is the local Dolphins fan base really that small? I have heard over the years that Miami has one of the biggest national and worldwide fan base. I think the Dolphins are #2 or #3 in the United Kingdom. Such a larger worldwide fan base but the local fan base is almost non existent? Really?

Some people have already touched on it earlier in this thread but it has gotten extremely annoying to come to this site and just about every single thread there is someone who just has to point something negative no matter what.

Opinions are opinions, this is a forum and I understand everyone has a right to post what they feel but this off-season and so far this pre-season it's just been out of control.

Some here might be ready to kiss the season goodbye before it even starts and if that's you then just save everyone the time and stop posting. I wonder if your the same posters that will come back and own up their mistake if Henne does start to light it up???

If he doesn't and stinks up oh well, I for one can't wait for football to start and to start yelling at my tv when the Dolphins do something good.
