Heres a guy who goes years with inconcsistent play, has one good season, and is struggling thus far without the breakout TE that was Gates, and suddenly some people think he will be a good fit in our offense? I simply do not see the need in Brees. He will be 27, ala AJ Feeley age, and he will have to prove himself all over again in a new offensive system. On top of that he doesnt exactly have the strong arm for a consistent vertical passing game. He is short, and he took four years to develop in San Diego. Whats the appeal?

We might as well start fresh with a rookie QB IMO. Plus, with possibly being 25mil under the cap next season after signing a #2 pick, we can afford a high pick rookie QB. I trust Saban and co. to scout a QB with the potential of a Roethlisburger (sp?) in the mid-round. Because fortunately, and unfortunately, this team will not be picking in the top five anytime soon.

Well its evident that we need a qb so people are throwing out all possibilities. I dont think Brees would be a good fit in our offensive system either and dont really care much for him either way. The thing about drafting a rookie(whitch i think we must do) is it would take him a year or 2 to develope and get comfortable. I really thought we should have taken a guy in the midrounds(4-7) or picked up a young qb with potential just to have lingering in our organization and learning the system.

IMO that's the one thing that was missed in the draft this year. They should have grabbed a QB somewhere in the middle rounds and started grooming him. Maybe he would never end up being great, but I think it was at least worth a shot given the somewhat shaky situation we're in at QB. Although Gus has played quite well so far, he's clearly too old to be a long term solution

As for Brees? I think it just has to do with the season he had last year. People look at the numbers he put up compared to our QB's. They were considerably better, add that to the fact it appears he may be available after this season and it's easy to see why his name keeps coming up.

Evidently you've forgotten about Brock Berleezy :D

As for Brees, well if there's no-one else we can get he's gotta be a better option than Gus or AJ

IMO the people who are hoping our starting QB is coming out of next year's draft are going to be sadly disappointed. Again this is only my opinion. Knowing coming in that our QB situation was unsettled at best, Saban still didn't draft a QB last draft. Referring back to the article already posted concerning being under the cap next year; Kevin Carter stated that Saban told him he was building (not re-building) to win now. Well, normally you don't win now with a rookie QB. Yeah, I know abour Rothlesberger, but he was the exception to the rule. So my point being if it's not Brees, I think we'll be looking to bring some other FA QB.

i still like the idea of spending feeley and a 5th to wash for ramsey...

Who?

I honestly don't think the future QB of this team is playing professional football right now. I believe we'll have to take a shot in next year's draft and hope we don't pick a booger.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!! Not only that, but a bunch of the fans are thinking that as well, that's why you'll see a lot of us want someone like Brees who can get it done NOW rather than Draft a QB who will take 3 years before he can get the job done effectively. That's why I say go O-line, early and often in the draft, get a QB, and more defensive help in Free Agency and we'd be alright!!! Build a young, dominant O-line, and everything else will fall into place

Brees is a better than average QB. His two games this year he didn't play that bad. I will agree they have Tomlinson and that helps but we will have R&R. He can step right in and make an impact. It is really a crap shoot with rookie qb's but if there is a diamond in the rough, I bet Saban already has scouts on it (especially since he's still fresh out of college coaching.

As for this years draft, you really can't complain. We had one of the most productive drafts at each level in years. 3-4 starters and all making the team.

I definately would not draft a QB too high since there's more of a chance at a bust. Maybe early/midround if anything.

But lets focus on this year. Lets kick some Panther Arse

I couldn't even begin to speculate who, specifically. But, I suppose you could take all the names generally tossed around and include them-Brees, Rivers, Ramsey, Volek, Couch, this guy, that guy, etc. Every name considered is going to come with pros and cons.
Obviously at some point, Saban will draft a QB; I'm not saying that. However, in my opinion, it won't be a 1st rd pick. I believe Saban will actively pursue a FA QB. Nonetheless, if Gus ends up playing solidly this year, I guess I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him back next year as our starter.

So basically a recycled (Frerotte) and/or unproven (Feeley) QB.......much like we already have. No thanks.

dolphines need to go ahead and draft a qb instead of picking from other teams leftovers
