What's Wrong with Players Wanting to Renegotiate Contracts?

It's only fair since teams, like the Dolphins, continuously renegotiate contracts year after year based upon salary cap needs and personnel performance. If teams do this, why can't players who feel they are undervalued ask for a new contract?
Personally, I would like to see both sides stop this renegotiation garbage. But if teams can do it, so can the players, I believe.
