When did our defense become mediocre?

Everyone's talking about the offense, about pep, etc. Fair enough, nothing new there, we've sucked on offense for years, although last year was better than most lately. However, what I've noticed that is just as disturbing is that somehow our defense, which has been our pride and joy for the last several seasons is sub par. We can't stop the run, and we have more breakdowns in the secondary than I care to think of. We've had a couple of nice interceptions today as well as a strip and fumble recovery. That's cool and all, but man, in three games we've been run over, and we are lucky that we haven't been beat for more touchdowns in the secondary. In this Tenessee game alone, I count 3 times where the receiver or tight end was wide open on a busted coverage where there was no safety deep that would've gone to the house that collins overthrew. I know that one of the reasons he overthrew is because of pressure, but really a better QB would've smoked us at least one or two of those times. Just an observation...
 
Nice thread, i agree with you. They coverage in the defense had some huge wholes that any other quaterback could have gotten that pass in. I dont think seban like those plays and he is gonna make them see the film like a hundred times. We didnt play well in any side of the ball, tennesee was just worse than us.
 
i was saying to myself if that were brady or someone else out there we would be getting smoked left and right huge blown coverages, im honestly thinking the whole team is looking mediocre its hard to watch them play. it kills me man, if we dont really start playing way better at pretty much every aspect of the game its going to be a long year.
 
they have been known, in recent years anyways, to give up a lot of yards but come up with key turnovers when the other team was threatening. we got those key turnovers today.
 
The defense has started sucking ever since Saban injected his confusing college schemes into it. The secondary looks lost out there and what coach in their right mind puts Zach in man coverage on a TE we've done it every game so far and they've scored touchdowns off of it in every game.

Doesn't matter how good his schemes might actually be, if the players cant figure them out they are worthless. If it aint broke dont fix it!
 
well we got lucky when bennet ball was overthrown, goodman got smoked bad.

also lol saban put a handicapped cb daniels in to cover and lucky enough we got a pick lol, daniels got killed on the move you can see daniels ankle how slow he was moving with it.
 
Hate to break it to you but our defense hasnt been anything thing great since 2003. Everything we've seen from the defense was to be expected IMO, except for the poor blitzing.

those "confusing college" schemes are what made the pats D so great over the years.
 
I am not feeling good about the Texans next week. Although their defense looks as bad if not worse than the Titans. But the Texans offense has shown they can move the ball through the air and our pass coverage is pitiful. We need to quit rushing the passer if we can't get to the QB. These blitzes are KILLING us.
 
we have issues. thank goodness Collins couldn't connect on the long ball...something the Texans aren't terrible at.
 
Yo cyndig i thought we only gave up like 65 yards on the ground all of a sudden we cant stop the run??????
 
Our defense has been mediocer for 3 years.

They have never been able to get off the field on 3rd downs and always given up points after we tie games or take leads.
