When is Ronnie Brown a Free agent? Do you think he might hold out for an extention?

2009 is the final year of his current contract, he'll be making $3.6 million. I doubt he holds out this year when he can leave the next.

He doesnt really have any grounds to support a hold out...

Ronnie has yet to put it all together for one season . . . so I wouldn't say he will hold out. But I am hoping that we lock him up this offseason . . . because he may explode next year and require huge dollars. I think we will get the Ronnie contract done before the season starts.

The question is... do we resign him?

I say we have to, he is ideal for this offense. Power back with 4.4 speed . . . Ronnie is a rare specimen in the NFL . . . a do it all back, hands . . . solid blocker . . we don't let him go I don't think. Hopefully the injury bug is done with him.

If the Dolphins don't re-sign him....I'd bet my next paycheck Bellichek scoops him up in a second.

And that we DON'T want to happen.

he seems like he's happy to be a phin, and hopefully the injury bug is done with him...so with that being said,i also hope we lock him up long term...

Ronnie is one of the guys I wouldn't mind see locked up as a fin for life . . . Jake Long also.

Id like to resign him too.. But parcells and Ireland have shown that in Dallas that they are willing to part with talented RBs. Should be interesting.

Good thing for us is that RB is entering a contact year.. which bodes well for his production numbers.

Ronnie will not hold out this year, it would be a terrible move by him. He has yet to have that huge season which would gaurentee him to be a top dollar RB, which is usually the reason for a holdout. He won't hold not now for less money then what he could get if he has a breakout season next year, or (God forbide) becomes a FA.

If the FO is completely serious about bringing Ronnie back, it means they believe he will have a big season next year, and become a premier back. If this is true we should possibly start talking extension with him, with not Top 5 RB $, but possibly Top 10 $. Maybe he would bite on it and each side could take a bit of a gamble. Plus the Franchise tag is a loss for both sides of the agreement, so he may also want to avoid that situation.

FA's get paid ridiculous amounts of money and I would personally love to see him get locked up before that. Then again, I believe he is worth the money. But, thats a dicussion for a different thread.

Yep, I mean I don't know what BP and Ireland think about resigining him . . . but Ronnie just is the type of guy u want on the Fins. I would be dissappointed if we let him go . . . but I am a Fins fan for life and I would move on.

This is exactly why I am expecting the Ronnie extension this offseason . . . I don't think we wait until next season . . . get it out of the way and don't chance this guy having a break out season and costing us more to resign.

Sorry guys I guess I should have done some research before I went spouting off about Top 5 and Top 10 RB money. As of right now Ronnie is Top 5 RB total money. Most was in bonuses and his base of 3.6 is small.

Turner actually has the highest total salary because he was a FA. All RB salaries will go up greatly when RB start getting signed to new contracts.

I still stand by everything else I sad. Just the Top 5 and Top 10 money was waayyyy off.

Here a really cool link from USA today with NFL player salaries:

The trend in the NFL is to use a tandem approach at running back. Franchise backs (OJ, Campbell, Dickerson, Sanders) do not win SB's. SB's are won with solid backs (Roger Craig, Emmitt Smith etc) and dominant O-lines.
I personally wouldn't mind seeing the Fins trade Ronnie straight up for Anquan Boldin. BP and co. could probably find a strong between the tackles runner somewhere in rds 3-6.
RW and Cobb will be back next yr, so they don't need a back to be "the franchise"
