I remember earlier this year there were talks of increasing the number of playoff teams. When is this going to happen ? Cant seem t find any info on it.

Actually the first time talk about an increase of playoff teams started after the 2008 season (the Pats missed the playoffs with an 11-5 record) but it died down for a few years.

I would say what is good for the Pats should be good enough for us. I just hope we also include a separate communication system in the remodeling like Kraft did for Razor Dull Stadium.

Right around time they decide to delude the quality of play and make playoff berths a joke like they are in the NHL and NBA. I won't be whining at the NFL rules if the Dolphins have a winning season and are left out, I'll be whining because they stared wins in the face that playoff teams get (and teams must get to make the playoffs) and were incapable of making the one play needed to turn good play in a game into a win like they do constantly with Philbin.

The NFL, as far as I know, IS going to add an extra Wild Card team in each conference.....from next season!

Apparently ESPN have already got a contract to show a play off game from that season onwards. They said they would talk more about it in the owners meetings in October just gone, so I expect to hear them announce it soon, assuming the plan is still in place.

I hope never - it'll make regular season performance as irrelevant as the NBA's! Instead of diluting the exclusivity of the postseason in order to pander to the almighty dollar (of which they're making beaucoup buck$ already), it would be better if they address the integrity of the postseason play by disqualifying. 500 or worse record "champions" from backing into the playoffs only because they're the "best of the worst" in their divisions.

I hope never but I think we could see it as early as next year.

I believe it will be next year....and the plan was to add a team to make it 7 from each conference and eliminate the bye week for the #2 seed. So only the #1 seed will have a first week bye.

I have absolutely no problem with adding another team. We will likely have a sub 500 team win the NFC South this year, who will get in and have a home game. Adding a 10-6 team or even a 9-7 team to the mix that wouldn't have gotten in previously, only improves the quality of the competition. This will change from year to year, but you get the drift. It works both ways.

Making the playoffs is good for the Team, good for the fans, good for the NFL. In a league where home field is a huge advantage and a 1st round bye is still available there is an awful lot to play for during the regular season.

It probably wont happen because 2/3 of nfl fans are bandwagon fans that root for the teams that already make the playoffs every year anyways.
