You are full of firsts this month aren't you Greg? Don't worry bro... I have been through 3 boys, so far, getting their licenses... The best thing you can do is get an old tank to let them drive around in for about a year before allowing them to drive the family vehicle unattened...

Also, be sure that you tell him NO PASSENGERS until they are 17! The biggest reason for beginners getting into accidents is due to distraction by passengers... And then there is the conversation about talking or texting on the cell phone while driving as well...

These are biggies, but wait... THERE"S MORE!!!

Just kidding bro... I am sure he will do just fine!

I understand the insurance, I feel for ya. In Illinois it is against the law for 16 year old to have more than one person in the car that is under the age 18, because of the distraction thing. The cell phone the same thing, against the law, I told her she gets caught she looses one or the other her choice.

He is 17, can't get your license in NJ until 17 (he turned it today)
And my parents gave him that car, but the hit on my insurance was $1061 for the car and $2100 for him. My car insurance went in one day from $2100 to over 5 grand, and my wife and I have never had to use the insurance, we are safe drivers. Ahhhh NJ!!

In NJ its he can have one non family member in the car, but he can drive as many family members as he wants.

Its odd, just watching him pull out of the driveway a few minutes ago, it seems like yesterday I was changing his diaper!

wow I hope you werent changing his diaper yesterday...that'd be kind of embarassing for a 17 year old to be wearing diapers. :kick:

Awww... Greg times fly so fast that you really need to stop and smell the flowers...

I still remember sitting my 2 year old niece, to take her picture, behind the wheel of my red Porsche. Then wooosh...16 years later she gets a brand new red BMW as a grad present, and I take new pictures of her, behind the wheel of course...

Now almost 4 years later, this spring, she will be getting her Batchelors... time flies my friend... so don't loose track of the big picture and enjoy life...:bighug:

I don't want to say how much that insurance bill cost for four year...

My youngest, and last child just got her license last week.

Insurance = $1100 a year.

In Arizona they issue a Graduated license until the age of 18.

Restrictions by the state are = none. The point I guess is that they can revoke this license for minor reasons as compared to a regular DL.

Restrictions by the Parent - ME :

No Loud Music
No "girls gone wild" in the car.
No cell phone or texting in the car.
No left hand turns against traffic or cross traffic, ever - Even I hate these.
No make-up in the car.

Obviously no speeding, drinking, letting others drive etc....

How do you drive? I'm seriously asking, not meant to be a put down.

I have felt your pain bro... I actually made my boys contribute to the insurance. I didn't force them to pay it all because that would be rediculious but they did contribute.

My point was that if they had a car of their own, they needed to support having it...

Man I am such a hardass!!!
