When the Miami Dolphins' owner seeks new leadership, he doesn't have to focus on glam

It would be nice getting a new Owner, new GM and new Coach. It has to start from the top. You don't see great organizations like the Packers, Steelers and Patriots offering partial ownership to J-Lo and Fergie and the Hollywood crowd. These organizations win because they are stable for many years, and they build their team from within and make sure the players they draft fit their system or they are cut. Why did we win SB's in the early 70's?, ...because of Robbie and Shula. Now all we have is a revolving door of crappy owners, GM's, coaches and players.

The question is ....who is the next young Ted Thompson???

What's done is done. Can we go back to Ron Wolf and say "Look, sorry, we missed on Ted Thompson, whom you suggested, do youn have any other name???"

This is so depressing...so many freakin misses...We missed on Brees twice! WTF!

about in a book. View attachment 7842

Yeah, that's the guy I want telling me about who I need to hire if I'm the owner.
He's not telling him who to hire, he's pointing out who they missed. He mentions no names as the next GM or HC.

Fans have no patience? Sorry, but sticking through 2 playoff appearances in 10 years, 27 years since a SB appearance, and 32 years since a SB win are the very definition of patience. What you have is not patience, it's acceptance of mediocrity.

If Ross does it the right way he won't have to worry about hiring a HC. He'll let his new GM do that and stay out of the way.

COWHER IS NOT COMING HERE!!!!!

for the last time [i hope], he was very vocal about his discust with the harbaugh fiasco while it was all playing out.

he said he would NEVER do that to a coach and would NEVER be part of an organization that would do that kind of thing.

yeah, i know, it was RUMOURED that cowher had 3 teams on his list if he came back to coaching, and miami was supposedly one of them. but, that was BEFORE the harbaugh thing happened.

he is not coming here as long as ross is the owner. folks need to move off the cowher talk. i would LOVE bill cowher as our coach but he isnt coming, he isnt working for ross. we ALL need to move along.

jeff fisher is the next biggest name. that would be fine with me also.

I've mentioned in another thread that I don't trust Ross unilaterally or in concert with Ireland if he's still around to select the next coach. He needs the kind of consiglieri that Parcells should have been - someone at least retained as a consultant on a project basis. Specifically I used Ron Wolf as a prime example of someone with the sound guidance to direct Ross through all the BS. Another good one would be Gil Brandt.

The problem is that Ross and Carl Peterson are buddies. He used him in the Harbaugh debacle and I think he'd feel Peterson would be offended if he goes outside to anyone other than him for help. And that's the quandry since asking for Peterson's counsel is akin to asking Stevie Wonder to navigate.

NOW wre getting into some realistic, productive talk.

this is ABSOLUTELY the right way to proceed. as long as that GM is not carl peterson, which i am having feeling thats where were heading. what ross needs to do is get a round table of league brass, nfl insiders, and a former finz player or two like marino and czonka. get someone fresh, someone on the tounges of these folks who is a consesus up and comer, the guy who has been around, paid his dues, is respected for his football knowledge, who is schooled in todays brand of the nfl and is ready to make that jump to the GM chair.

or, if for some reason a tried and true productive veteran gm who has a record of good drafts becomes available, then do that.

but our biggest problem over the last 20 years or so is NON PRODUCTIVE DRAFTS! not identifying the talent we do find and letting them go to star on other teams. busts at first round pics. no haste and putting a premium on a franchise qb. hanging on to dear life to MEDIOCRE players or dissapointing draft pics like they are untouchable sure fire hall of famers.

this all goes back starting with DON SHULA. don was a GREAT coach, an x's and o's magician. but when he forced joe robbie into giving him the GM title along with his coaching duties, thats when our slide started. don just couldnt recognise talent. a gm he was not. the list of AWFUL players he chose in the last 5 or 6 years of his regime were lenghty. lots of 1st round embarrasments. and the well was running dry by the time he was RIGHTFULLY repaced. JJ brought us in some great defensive talent but his offensive choices [starting with yatil green] were horrid as were most of his long list of small school nobodys.

then wanny. and i dont have to explain any of that. well became dried up. cam cameron gets a pass because he got an empty bottle and one season. mostly because he couldnt handle an nfl locker room. saban put the baby to bed starting with his HORRIBLE first choice with RONNIE BROWN second over all, a rb who never started for ANY team he ever played on. thats not productive drafting, thats roster suicide!! and the well was now gone. there was no well. now we get ireland and sparano who dont handle the draft or f/a right, cant identify the talent they do find, cant develpe what they keep and the proverbial well is now an urban legend.

this team has ONE hope if we are not doomed for another 15 to 20 years. GET A REAL GM IN HERE and DO WHAT IT TAKES TO FIND A FRANCHISE QB. without those two things, the winning tradition of the dolphins will be part of historic lore along with the likes of stonewall jackson and george patton. ancient history!!
