I really don't get it. 10 days ago, this board was ready to crucify Tannehill. Now they win a game and he plays solid and he's "the guy"? He is who he always has been. QB Purgatory. Dolphins will never make the playoffs with Tannehill, and need to find his replacement. He literally has the worst pocket movement I've ever seen.

This is isn't trolling. Serious question, why is FH so bipolar with #17?

This has been the Tannehill's MO since he's been in the NFL. Gives you hope but then brings it back down to reality. He shows "flashes" but like Ive said before, doesn't EVERY NFL QB show "flashes"?

Because FH isn't ONE person. NOTHING HAS CHANGED. No opinions have changed. When the OL is decent Tannehill performs. When it sucks he does not.

The Dolphins are 7-1 when the OL has Albert, Pouncey, and James. Historically, that included crappy guard play. This was true when Omar Kelly wrote it last season and it is still true now:

However, quarterback Ryan Tannehill's raw statistics during that period can't be ignored. In those seven games over the past two seasons Tannehill, who has been the most sacked quarterback in the NFL during his four-year run as a starter, produced an impressive 107.0 passer rating.

During those seven games Tannehill clearly benefited from a cleaner pocket, and the Dolphins run game was more consistent, averaged 147.3 rushing yards and scoring six rushing touchdowns in those seven contests.

That explains why the Dolphins averaged 30.5 points in those games, which were against three teams that made it to the playoffs those seasons.

Tannehill completed 70 percent of his passes in those seven games. He averaged 254 passing yards, threw 15 touchdowns and five interceptions. He was sacked 17 times in those seven games, which averages out to 2.43 sacks per contest, which is better than his 2.87 sacks per game career average.

Now compare those numbers to the Steelers game:

75% completion, 252 yards, 2 TD passes dropped, 0 INTs
200 yards rushing, 3 rushing TDs
30 points scored

Those numbers are SHOCKINGLY similar to the averages over the previous 7 games. It is not a coincidence.

Why do the naysayers insist on IGNORING the obvious? How many games will it take to convince you?

The thing is, it's not like he's showed flashes of excellence. His best is just above average..

Because its obviously not consistent or good enough for us to win.

Because they want it so bad....

What I think gets missed is that so many of the QB's (like many other positions) that out side of the top 5 the movements is very fluid. You can have a guy play like a top 10 guy one season, then look like a guy in the 20's the next. So many factors are involved in the play of the player that only the truly elite can transcend what is around them. If people can accept that he is an average QB (he is paid like one), that he is going to have weeks were he looks really good and others where he looks poor and that his success will depend heavily on the team around him as well as the coach then you can grasp who he is. Some want him to be "top 10" or "elite", that they will find even the slimmest of evidence to show that he is that QB and will use that to confirm their belief.

when will you stop bouncing from one end of the spectrum to the other on an evaluation?

not trolling...serious question

I agree with this entire post. Problem is, you're swimming upstream trying to build a team around an average QB. Let's say you build an elite OL, run game, defense. What happens is other teams poach your players in FA, and it's incredibly hard to replicate.

The key to sustained success in the NFL is a star QB. Miami passed on a star for Jawuan ****ing James....

that sums it up!

Remember when I said against the Bills in 2014 he's an Alex Smith esque starter? Yeah.. that hasn't changed

He's a brady with legs.....just wait.....and continue waiting.....were not quite there yet......give him more time.......give him a new coach........let him change plays at the line of scrimmage.......draft a real O-line man.........Finally has one good game out of 6 played......told you so!

even if he was an alex smith ceiling player which he's not you can win a lot of games with an alex smith type

anyways they keep protecting him these last 10 and we'll see where it ends up...

unfortunately for you guys adam gase doesn't agree and that's really all that matters

The difference is Alex Smith has some degree of poise, and Tannehill can't spell the word. He's never even heard it.
