Can Beck sit for two years behind Trent Green? If Beck sits for two years, do you think he will make rookie mistakes or play like a vet at age 28?

I think he sits one year tops, unless of course he turns out to be a flop.

I suppose smart money would say he starts in 2008, but my gut tells me for some reason that he will be playing sometime after mid-season 2007.

I cannot forsee Trent Green starting the next two years for us.

I think no matter how long he sits when he comes in he will make rookie mistakes. Probably not as many as he make as a pure rookie, but it will still be his first year under center in a real NFL game. Philip Rivers did a good job last year in his first year but you cannot expect that out of every QB in that situation. Depending on how the OL and the rest of the offense fairs he may not make those mistakes after sitting a year. I think he will sit this year and it will be an "open competition" next year.

He'll sit back for 1yr IMO and 2008-09 season we'll see him get a legit shot. Lemon will be the backup behind Green going into training camp.

Way too early to tell. He might look terrific during training camp and we have a full blown quarterback controversy come September. He might look abysmal and we start wondering whether Mueller chose the wrong guy. There's simply no way of telling right now.

That said, if everything goes well, he should be able to start by the end of the season. That doesn't mean that he will play by then or even in 2008 - but he should be ready to. He's mature enough to handle the pressure, he's got all the physical tools you look for and the spread offense he played at BYU is actually not that far removed from Cameron's Air Coryell/Zampese type of offense.

It's rather impossible to wager a guess at this point, but if the Fins are out of the playoff race by week 13 or 14, we might see Beck for the last couple of games. If Green somehow manages to get us into the playoffs, we might not see Beck for two more years.

If you are right then that means that 1.Green is injured or stinking it up as well as Lemon or 2. We are having a major losing season by mid-season and the season is already gone. I'd rather see Beck in 2008

I love that last sentence. I dont want to sit through two years of Green at this stage.

I like the idea of an ''open competition'' next year. Beck should have to win the job instead of being handed the job. It's not like he is being paid top ten money, so it doesn't force our hand to play him. Beck's window of opportunity will be smaller than a first rounder if he wins the job. If he doesn't play well he could be replaced in a New York minute.

I don't think it will be so much about Green stinking it up, as it will be his health. He has reached that age where injuries start coming much easier.

I don't think he'll make it thru the season healthy and I think Beck will get the shot, perhaps after Lemon stumbles.

My feeling is that John will start before the end of this season. I just have a feeling that Trent is not going to make it the whole year. Plus I think that John will beat out Lemon, in TC, to become our #2 QB.

Not necessarily. Think Eli Manning and Jay Cutler. New York and Denver's seasons weren't "lost" at the points when they came in. Beck may overtake the backup role through his peformance in practice. But, like you say, I doubt we'll see Beck in 2007 unless we are doing horrible by the bye week. If that's the case, throw him in there and let him learn.

Guy's... Trent Green might get hurt with one big hit remember? who's to say he can even last a season health wise? however, if he doesen't get hurt he will play good enough for us to make the playoffs. BUT if he does get hurt I think Beck will come in and the rest will probably be history.
He's 26 and he's BRIGHT!

Hopefully he gets to see some action this season, not starting but coming into blowout games. That way he at least gets some experience playing before he is pushed into the starters roll.

When he starts will be up to Trent Green. If he flops Beck could be starting as early as late this season, if he plays well it will probably be two years.
