I remember over a year ago when we were trying to trade Pat Surtain to the Chiefs and Larry Johnsons name came up there were a whole litany of people who stated how overrated this guy was and he was too slow and he would never be a bigtime back. Of course this was before Ricky came back and we drafted Ronnie Brown but how totally unbelievably amazingly wronfg alot of people were when it came to thier opiniions about Larry Johnson. He does play for a very good offensive line but still...he has just looked unstoppable.

I think everyone was basing this on the previous lack-of-success from Penn State RBs. You have to admit there is a long line of bad NFL backs from Penn State for one reason or another.

Hey, good for LJ. He proved everyone wrong, and looks to be just an amazing talent.

Didn't KC's entire OL make the probowl?

Seriously... I don't know that Johnson would be as good without that all pro OL. I seriously don't think he's any better than Ricky is. Now if we could have traded Pat for their O-Line... THAT would have been nice :D

I'll step up and admit that I never thought that Larry Johnson was going to be any good......this dates all the way back to before the draft. It wasn't so much based off of what other PSU backs had (or hadn't) done....but the fact that almost all of his rushing yards came against sub-par opposition, while he was a complete non-factor in against any big-time opponents.

I started to come around last year when he played late in the year.....but I probably still had a little doubt, thinking that it could have been the system....and that all backs could run behing that line.

But I have seen the light on LJ, and won't doubt him anymore.

Big deal.

I know that there are a few people who think they're never wrong about anything but, I guarantee I could go through every single posters' history on this site and embarass each and every one of them with something they said that turned out laughingly wrong.

Including yours, and including mine.

Johnson is a solid, big back... but that's the best offensive line the NFL has seen in 10 years...

Johnson just had probaly the best half of a season that any Rb has ever had. Anyone that thinks its just the Oline is crazy. Their oline is good but lets not be stupid, a Rb still has to shake tackles, outrun people and run people over to have the kind of yardage he has been gaining.

Couldn't agree more. Everyone is so quick to point out everyone else's mistakes they fail to look at their own

I never bagged on lj I changed my opinion of him after the "diaper" thing, he handeled it like some one who belongs in diapers. but I was and still am a Ronnie Brown fan.
and no we still dont need him.

Larry Johnson makes incredible moves outside the tackles and up field. I dont think the o-line is doing anything for him there. He's a solid back and i knew he would be....for get Blair Thomas and Ki-Jana carter, this kid is hear to stay.

I can only think of one thing I v'e been wrong about I said upon his return ricky would be a non factor- oops! but if you can come up with more I can take it.
consider it a friendly challenge.

How about making it somebody more challenging? ;)

I'll speak up...I'm one of the many who thought he is overrated.

I'm one of the few who still think he's overrated.

He is a decent back but that offensive line is rediculous. The best I've seen since Jimmy's Cowboys.

I'm convinced that you could take any of about 50 running backs on NFL rosters this year and they would put up 1,400 yards and 15 TDs if they stayed healthy running behind that line.

There's no doubt our O-Line is a big part of it, but I still think he's a good back. A lot of his yards come after contact and he just doesn't want to ever go down.

Only problem I still see with him is that he needs to learn how to block and pick up the blitz a little better. Do watch out for him next year though.

As for the Dolphins, Brown and Williams is all they need. I expect to see good things from Miami next year if they draft well.
