Where are all the people ?

Where are all the people that said others were being so stupid about Frerotte as starting QB next year? If we are so satisfied or Gus is so good how come so many QB rumours are being linked to Miami.I know they are just rumours but if Gus is decent enough to be a starter as many on this board have stated how come we don't want to give him a paltry 4 million to be our starter for one more year. Saban wants to win and I'm sure being the smart coach he is , he knows that Gus at Qb is equilivalent to Morris at RB. You have to upgrade your weaknessess. In the end Gus may still be our QB but we have to attempt to upgrade and unless we get Brees we should draft a QB regardless of who we sign or trade for. Except for the Ricky Williams debacle (please dont be true or correct) things seem to be looking up. So I ask again all the people that berated others for suggesting that we will pursue an upgrade, Where are you now?

Even with the paycut the pine is calling his name again. I think he will have a problelm with us cutting his salary to sign a Mcnown if that happened.
 
Just cut him then. If he doesn't want to negotiate and then compete for the job then bye bye Gus. The only loyalty we have is to improving the team!

Can't think of many people who said "Gus is 'so' good". I do remember people saying at the time their arguement was made that he was the best option at the given time.

1. Depends on who we get for a QB, if we draft a guy, then Gus will more than likely start, but we bring in a young vet, then Gus will be a back-up or retire.

2. I think the pine went bye-bye a long time ago. Isn't it plastic now?:sidelol:
 
Nick will not make the mistake that Wanny made of sticking with the wrong guy for too long....it seems more and more like Nick will get a QB before the draft and even then I can see us drafting a QB on day too just to develop one.

Well, I wasn't one of those guys that you're talking about but let me ask you, what are you trying to prove? That you're smarter than those guys? That you're a better fan? Keep on mind that in the end, we're all just fans and we all want the same thing, for us to win!!

I have yet to see anyone claim to be thrilled that Gus is our starter. However, I have seen (and I am one) people say that Gus is the best we've had since Marino left. Being better than Fielder and Feeley isn't really saying much. There isn't a single person on this board who'd be disappointed if Gus isn't our starter next year if we have a chance to upgrade. It's an absolute no brainer. But, on our roster RIGHT NOW, he is still the best Miami has.

I'd like to see some quotes saying that we didn't need an upgrade at qb....saban has been one to always state that if there was a clear upgrade we would jump on it.....gus did a serviceable job for us and if he was our starter next yr then so be it.....gus is old and we need a qb regardless....

Many people were saying if forced between Gus and another so so or questionable QB they'd take Gus. Guys like Brooks, Culepepper, Pennington, Harrington are all guys who I'd take Gus over them any day. Brees is the only FA QB I wanna see in a Phins uniform. If we got a rookie QB early in the draft, it would be in our best interest to keep Gus to groom him. There are rumors but those are just rumors, I don't see Gus parting ways just yet.

I would rather draft a quarterback next year then sign MCNown
 
I don't remember people saying Gus was good. What I remember was people saying that guys like Kitna were not worth pursuing as an upgrade. I also remember most people saying that we needed a QB for the future. If a clear upgrade is available you pursue it. Brees and Culpepper are clear upgrades.
 
Most of the 'earlier' bantor was WRT GUS being replaced by a significant upgrade .... which from the earlier forums - was a reach ... the climate has changed a bit over the last 90 days.

GUS doesn't deserve a 4 MIL salary. Equally, if we have to pay BREES 8 MIL per year [not including the signing bonus] ... then I am not sure BREES is worth THAT much !

So, the choice STILL is .... sign a significant improvement over GUS [namely a healthy BREES] ... or select a day 1 QB in the draft. There are several branches off of these 2 choices ...

Finding a cheap back-up should not prove difficult given the current status of available QBs ....

Upgrading is ALWAYS the desire ... BUT it still has to fit in the financial framework of the team !!
