Have you ever wondered, "What ever happened to ..." some of your all-time favorite Dolphins players? In this exclusive series for MiamiDolphins.com, Dol-Fans can finally get the answer to that question about former quarterback Scott Mitchell. A fourth round draft choice of the Dolphins in 1990, Mitchell played five seasons in Miami and finished his career with 12 touchdown passes.

Honestly, I've never wondered what happened to Scott Mitchell before. I don't mean to sound negative, but he certainly was never the sort to leave an impression.

He sure left an impression on the Lions, they dumped alot of cash on him. By the way, if this messageboard existed in 1993 the "Trade Marino/Keep Mitchell" thread would have had at least 20,000 replies.

I thought he was a great back up for us.... He had a good year fillin in for Marino with his torn achilles, and signed a lucrative contract with the Lions....some decent years throwing to Herman Moore and some other guy named Moore. He was a great pick for us in the draft ... I think from Utah

He was a good backup. I was at that game in the Kingdome in `92 when Marino got knocked out in the fourth quarter, and Mitchell came in and hit Duper on fourth and long that got us a first down and kept the drive alive to beat the Seahawks. Marino came back in to hit Freddie Banks for the winning TD, but it was Scotts pass that won us the game imo. Too bad he never panned out in Detroit, I really thought he would. He got a boatload of $$ from the Lions though, he`s probably still laughing all the way to the bank!

Good backup and I don't really fault anyone who has done badly in Detroit since the team has seemingly dedicated themselves to mediocrity.

Reading this article just made me miss Don Shula more!

I totally agree! I find it amazing how Shula would let the quarterbacks call their own plays, how many of the huge ego coaches of today would let their quarterback (not named Peyton Manning) do that.

well the be thing that went wrong with scott is once he seperated his shoulder, cant remember exactly what game, honestly it seems like it was against detroit but im not looking back into schedules to figure out. but after he came back from his seperated shoulder he never seemed the same, he was timid in the pocket and seemed scared to leave it....not that he was super mobile but he could at least tuck and run for a few, but once the shoulder injury he always seemed skeered in the pocket

I'm pretty sure it was at Philly, I can still remember the wild eyed look Doug Pederson had when he had to go in, but not totally positive on the location.

you are correct my friend that was shulas record win cause pederson won it and mitchell was in the background. you da man :-D sheesh i feel like less of a dolphins fan that i forgot that game but i was only like 13....
it was on the burger king comercial if yall remember that

Article states that Mitchell ended his career with 12 td passes. Is that true?
