Too bad, they must have kept Chalupa. I was hoping we could pick him up, he was a beast.

Report: Saints make roster cuts
Baton Rouge, LA (Sports Network) - The New Orleans Saints waived or terminated 19 players in an effort to reduce their roster to 53 on Saturday, according to a report in the Sunday edition of the Baton Rouge Advocate.

Defensive end Anders Akerstrom, tight end Mike Banks, cornerbacks Fred Booker, Matthew Clark and Jimmy Williams, linebacker Levar Fisher and Cabel Rohloff, wide receivers Talman Gardner, Keron Henry and Chris Vance, defensive tackle Howard Green, guards Augie Hoffmann, Dwayne Ledford, Ikechuku Ndukwe and Chad Setterstrom, running back Keith Joseph, fullback Nate Schurman and defensive end Jimmy Verdon were the excised players listed in the report.

Green, who started 10 games for New Orleans on the defensive line last season and recorded 27 tackles, was among the most significant cuts. Green lost his starting job to former first-round draft choice Johnathan Sullivan in the preseason.

Wide receiver Chase Lyman, a 2005 fourth-round draft choice who injured his knee in the team's first mini-camp, was placed on season-ending injured reserve.

A former Episcopal High School star and two former LSU standouts were among the cuts Saturday as the New Orleans Saints reduced their roster to the regular-season limit of 53.
Cornerback Jimmy Williams, a multi-sport athlete who played at Episcopal, was among the 19 players who were released. Williams, a five-year veteran signed with the Saints this spring during free agency after spending the past four years with the San Francisco 49ers.

Also waived Saturday were defensive tackle Howard Green and cornerback Fred Booker -- who both played at LSU.

Wide receiver Talman Gardner, a New Orleans native who was hampered by sprained ankles in training camp, was also cut.

Williams and Green were the most surprising cuts.

Williams had impressed the coaches as the fifth cornerback and had shown flashes as a kick returner in the exhibition games. Green started 10 games last season after winning the job in training camp from former first-round draft choice Johnathan Sullivan.

The other cuts were defensive end Anders Akerstrom, tight end Mike Banks, cornerback Matthew Clark, linebacker Levar Fisher, wide receiver Keron Henry, guard Augie Hoffmann, running back Keith Joseph, guard Dwayne Ledford, guard Ikechuku Ndukwe, linebacker Cabel Rohloff, fullback Nate Schurman, guard Chad Setterstrom, wide receiver Chris Vance, and defensive end Jimmy Verdon.

Some of the players who were cut are eligible for the eight-man practice squad. The Saints can begin signing those players today if they clear 24-hour waivers.

Wide receiver Chase Lyman, the team's fourth-round draft pick this spring, was placed on injured reserve. Lyman injured his knee in the rookie minicamp and had reconstructive surgery in May.

Would you believe all of the NFL cuts were in the Orlando paper today except the Saints......I guess the turmoil of moving west on account of the hurricane, they might not have gotten the list in yet. Sorry! If I see anything I'll post it.
