Lets pretend for just a moment...

Its summer, 2015, training camp is just beginning...and we have Jim Harbaugh as our head coach.

How do you feel about this? I mean how do you feel about it RIGHT NOW!?!? Anything you say - remember that there is a small % chance that we will be revisiting this thread in the summer and Harbaugh COULD, in fact, be our head coach.

Go on the record right now. What are your thoughts, and do you support him? I want to see the debate on here now. A lot can happen to sway opinions later - most notably the moment he is sporting a Dolphins logo. What do you think about him right now - especially with all the controversy?

My opinion:

Personally I would be ecstatic. He took a horrible 49ers team, that went through a decade of misery just like our beloved Dolphins...and brought them to glory for 3 years in a row IMMEDIATELY upon taking the reigns. 2 NFC Championships and 1 Superbowl...that is quite a record. In fact...I don't know if there has ever been a coach to come into the NFL and have that type of resume. Its unheard of...

Team this guy with our talent (who I would argue are better than that 49ers bunch at the time) and we could really have something special for years to come. There's one thing I'm certain of...it would be a breath of fresh air for many of our guys in that locker room who want a coach who actually shows emotion.

Of all the coaches we have had to deal with since Shula...I respect Satan and Morono the most. Why? Because they had the respect of the players and they were heated on the sidelines. I want to know that the coach is just as much upset as I am when the game isn't going right. I want to see his headset fall off his friggin face when hes screaming at the refs (see Nick Saban photo) and I want to see him fist pump after points are scored on the board, even if its just a FG (I know I'll take heat for that one)...but the point is that emotion is contagious and we've seen 3 seasons in a row where our players fall flat on their face in December - that is coaching gentlemen.

Here's hoping that we revisit this thread many times over the course of the off season and he is indeed a Miami Dolphin.

I'm a Dolphins fan. Of course I would support him. Do I think it's a slam-dunk great move? No. It would depend who else was out there interested. There've been a number of serious questions that have arisen about Harbaugh this year. I think he might be similar to Bobby Knight ... I very gifted coach who is just as ungifted at handling people. In the NFL, that second part can be a huge problem.

Truly excited we have a guy who knows how to win. Excited to see Tannehill develop under the guy who made Alex freakin Smith serviceable. Excited Philbin and his .500 ways are gone.

edit: Non-public poll? Your killing me smalls.

Money talks my friend.

Also...whats all this talk about a TRADE for him!? Does that mean he would even have control, or do the 49ers have the right to send him to any potential suitor willing to make the best offer? I'm confused about all this...

Did I do something wrong? WTH is a non-public poll?

Can a mod fix whatever problem I made?

Who cares...anyone that endorses kaepernick I have zero interest in...

You have 33,000 posts in only 6 years. Awarded best poster for 2 of those years...and you can't you provide us with a little more insight than that?

The basis, and entirety of your logic, is that he publicly defended his quarterback? I'm with you on Kap sucking...but come on man. Being a head coach also comes with politics.

Hes also the same coach who helped develop Andrew Luck, whom you appear to have the utmost respect for? I suppose that carries no weight though?

This is honestly the only thing about Harbaugh that gives me pause. The only position he has control over is the QB, and he hitched his wagon to Kaep.

My argument would be...the alternative was Alex Smith at the time.

However, lets not forget that Kaep ran an offense good enough to get deep into the playoffs for 3 years in a row. He developed trust and loyalty with his QB within a system that limited his ability to make errors and it worked for a long time. Does everyone forget when the NFL was raging about Kaep? There was once upon a time...and that is why he is one of the most paid QB's in the NFL. Do you bench him when there is nobody behind him worthy of the future reigns? When you're paying him that much and have a history together?

As far as his support of him THIS season (if that is what you guys are referring to exclusively, I'm not sure) - yes I agree that has been very questionable...but when Harbaugh is already set on leaving after the end of this season, and there is no better alternative behind him...why not? They undoubtedly built a friendship, and a loyalty over their successes in recent years - and Harbaugh doesn't have to worry about the future. Sounds like a favor for a friend to me. Or Perhaps there is politics that we just don't know about? We know he has issues with the owner and GM, etc...perhaps there is more to it than we know?

Whatever the case...I don't think this has any real value when discussing Harbaughs abilities as a head coach.

Waiting for that 1st "In Philbin I trust" vote, and YOU BETTER COME FORWARD! Lol.

Harbaugh can basically veto any trade. It isn't like players, he has to agree to go. There was an article written recently about the process of trading a coach, but i cant easily find it(so if anyone wants to link it...). Regardless, we'd have to give away draft picks and money, and Harbaugh would have to agree come coach this team.

And a public poll reveals who voted for what option. Non-public doesn't. You choose which type to have when making the poll, i dont believe a mod can change it after its done. Theres nothing inherently wrong with it, but it would have been enlightening to see where people stood.

For the record, i voted the top option.

He also rode Kaepernick to a Superbowl and a Championship game. Sure, it was a mistake, but he made the best of it and came damn close to "correcting" said mistake.

As well, that wouldn't be a problem here.
