I remembered hearing that he was thought of as having the best pocket presence in history, but i cant find anything on the subject, and couldn't find a thread on it. so sorry if its already posted. Anybody have information on the subject?

He definitely had a low sack count because of his quick release. Don't know where you'd find info on pocket presence though.

His pocket presence was eerie...like he had eyes in the back of his helmet. Fran Tarkenton was very perceptive too; Marino would step up and fire while Tarkenton would scramble around like a wild chicken.

i wish i could remember him better. i saw him in a preseason game against the redskins. with kareem abdul-jabbar

Pocket Presence is a nebulous thing. I mean..There is no stat for it. Dan had amazing presence and vision in the pocket. I watched some old games recently, and, it struck me how, in turn, one could read HIM. He was looking at one side of the field...looking..looking..looking..Then, he turned to the opposite side and, *BOOM* The ball shot out like a rocket without him even looking at the reciever it seemed.

I think if tested, Dan probably has unreal periferal vision. In my limited football career, I was downright slow. I could not get to somewhere unless I had a jump on the other players, and, I was able to do that many times with my abiity to sense and process movement without actually concentrateing on in. I'd bet Dan has that.

He also could sense pressure. Then, he had his little shuffle step that I saw make rusher after rusher miss.

Pocket presence heck, I loved watching Dans' blazing speed when he ran with the ball. He had to have ran the 40 in about 19 seconds. :chuckle:

To tell you the truth, hard as I try, I really can not think of anyone who had as good a pocket precence as Marino.

It was uncanny, he might not have been the most nimble of QBs, but more times then not, just as a DE was about to get a hand on Marino from his blindside, Marino did his famous step up or away from the defender....almost as if he had a sixth sense. :D

I just remember his classic statement to all of his receivers every year. " I want your heads turned around like the girl from the Exorcist"! HEHEHE....Classic!

I'm sorry you and quite a few members never got to watch Marino in his prime. This man had a sixth sense in the pocket and with the quickest release in football.

As far as I'm concerned in my eyes a player that comes around once in a lifetime.Get some old film or video and watch the master...

i hated elway growing up because i got to see marino end the way he did at the same time. that being said its an honor to have a player of that caliber play for the our team, and he will always be argued as the top passers ever. go fins

I got chills. I forgot just how good he was. I found myself going.."He's got somebody!" just by the way he threw the ball at certain times. God, he was great.

marino is a football GOD. he's is the greatest quarterback and football player of all time. I love dan marino. no one will ever come close to being a better quarterback then him.
I LOVE YOU DAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, it was unreal how quick he got the ball out of his hand once he saw an open WR. I remember announcers saying he can't be human because nobody has a reaction time that fast. As for the original question.....he definately had the best pocket presence that I've ever seen.
