Where have all the offensive linemen gone?

that's a great article. Should be mandatory reading.

Miami should be all over Ronald Leary when the FA starts next year.

I would go after him for sure. Also need to consider a veteran center possibly and move away from pouncey

Miamis o line should be better than 20th ranked on paper...units underachieved

Even with our top 5 our pass pro hasnt met expectations

As the article alluded to, it's more so the mental aspect that is suffering due to a lack of full contact reps. Being bigger or angrier won't make a difference.

Yeah, that has nothing to do with it. You should know as a fan of Langer. He was under average size even for the 70's.

The Indianapolis Colts line of the late '00's was one of the better units to play the game. Most were fairly undersized and were anchored by HOF center Jeff Saturday (6'2" 290#). Their "secret": solid and consistent technique led by O-line coach Howard Mudd.

*Interesting tidbit on Saturday: There were 10 players selected from Jeff Saturday's North Carolina squad that were drafted in rounds 1-3. He was the only one who had a long term career in the NFL and is now a Hall Of Famer. Oh, and Jeff went undrafted. The draft is a crapshoot. #Coachingwins

Great article, LUG. Thanks.

So our line still sucks but most of us feel it's so much better than in previous years...that should tell you how utterly awful this O-line was.

And I'm no Chris Foerster fan...I don't think he's a very good O-line coach at all. One of my least favorite hires by Gase.

Let us not also forget our very own Dwight Stephenson, who is arguably the best Center to play the game...6'2 around 260 pounds. Technique will blow away size every time.

Now if you can get someone with size, and is also technically sound, now you have something.

There's no argument to be made. :brewskis:

Well, the average size of lineman in the 80's was around 270, so being 260 wouldn't have been small.

Average size for a lineman in the 80's was 6'4" 272#

Dwight Stephenson was listed at 6'2" 255#

So yeah, Stephenson was certainly considered undersized yet was one of the most (if not the most) dominant lineman and could still toss around 300+ DL.
