Isn't he a lame duck GM right now with only a year left? If Ross used that excuse to give Philbin (A proven failure) an extension, why doesn't the same logic apply to Hickey?

I think Hickeys contract isn't up for another 2 or 3 years, so it would be kinda pointless to do that at this point. I think the bigger question here should be what hickey does this off-season, which could define Philbins future and also could impact Hickeys.

Hickey signed a 2 year deal last year. It aligned with Philbin's which is why we all thought they were tied together. Now, once again, we have the coach and GM on separate pages.

The Dolphins’ roller-coaster search for a general manager ended last week when they hired Dennis Hickey. But it turns out the Dolphins are not showing the strong commitment to their new GM as other teams around the NFL. New general manager Dennis Hickey’s contract with the Dolphins is for only two years, according to multiple sources.

Don't really see them extending him at this point.

Excellent thread. Philbin being extended and Hickey not being extended can't be ignored. Ross can't tell up from down. Considering the Philbin extension and noticeable lack of an extension for Hickey, there's no way Hickey will be anything but a glorified scout this year and will have no say on roster construction. Anyone who wants to spout the company line that Hickey will be in control of personnel needs only to look at the fact that Hickey hasn't been extended. This **** makes me sick. Ross stumbled ass backwards into a lucky hire with Hickey and manages to **** it up in less than one year. Philbin and Tannenbaum are Ross picks and will be supported regardless of how inept they are. Someone comes in does the job well and is neutered and pushed out within the year.

Until Hickey is extended, you shouldn't buy a single word that's come from Ross or Tannenbaum regarding his role on the team.

Hickey did a good job his 1st year so why would Ross give him an extension? Ross only give extensions to the ones that suck.

I still think Hickey is out after the draft and is replaced. I like the work Hickey did, but it would be the right move to bring more alignment within the org.

No, the right move would have been to keep a failed, kicked to the curb jets reject who couldn't even get interviews so he moved to sports agentry, away from actual football decisions and especially away from Hickey, the only decision maker from HC up thru ownership who's demonstrated himself to be worth a damn

So if Ross hired Martin Mayhew as VP how would that sit? I would have loved that myself.

The right move is bringing in people who do their job well. Incentivizing them to continue doing their job well while putting them in the best position to succeed and help the organization. It's not appeasing people by bringing in their cronies.

:brewskis:
Exactly.

How do we know that Hickey, Tannenbaum and Philbin aren't all aligned?
