..among current Nfl head coaches?? here is my top coaches and I'm trying to be realistic.

1. Bellichek-for obvious reasons
2. Parcells- he makes EVERY team better.
3. Cowher-the "dean" of coaches for a reason
4. John Fox- from 1-15 to maybe 3 SB's in 2 years.
5. Gruden- That team shouldnt be as good as they were, if griese stays healthy, there still playing!

6. Saban- look for a jump into the top 3 after next year;)

I agree with you. But that's only because the 'Phins didn't make the playoffs.

But Saban is a great coach. While most people believed he was going to completely overhaul the roster, he did let many of the "WannySpeil" guys stay and show what they got (for better or for worse). And many of the "WannySpeil" guys (the ones that didn't seem to have skills) did stay, and quite a few still have a future starting role on the roster (Ex.: Yeremiah Bell and Derrick Pope).

So Saban is number six.... but only for now.

I'd put Fox at #2, honorable mention to Gibbs too...the redskins will far and away have the best coaching staff next year: Joe Gibbs, Gregg Williams, Al Saunders, Joe Bugel, etc..

Thats a lot of SB in only 2 years for Fox

Saw that too! Funny but of course he doesn't need to correct it because we know what he means. Good question. I think he has a good list. Can't despute Belli, and Parcells always does a great job as do the others. But I'm glad we have Saban over Parcells because you never know when he'll burn out. He is older and really puts soooo much of his blood into it, like all the great ones do. Saban will climb into my top 3 no doubt next year too. I think he might even be better than gRUDEN NOW IF YOU COUNT OFFSEASON STUFF. dOES gRUDEN MAKE A LOT OF SHREWD MOVES? i'M NOT SURE, i'M ASKING. (Sorry Caps lok)
Anyway, I doubt there will be many coaches betetr than Saban in the offseason. He seems very set on getting his way. Look at how he got fair trade for Surtain when KC was trying to use the cap problems to corner him. He said he'd keep him if needed. Gets the best out of his players too I think. I really am happy about Nick!

no disrespect but all those guys have track records in the NFL, Saban doesn't yet. He will soon, and will be top 3, but he's not #6 now. Mine looks like this

1) Bellicheck
2) Parcellls
3) Gibbs
4) Cowher
5) Gruden
6) Dungy
7) Fox
8) Holmgren
9) Saban

1) Bellicheck
2) Parcells
3) Gibbs
4) Holmgren
5) Gruden

That is the top 5 and there our a lot of coaches getting close to those ranks but have not made it yet. I think there are a lot of solid coaches in the NFL but if i had to choose a HC to start my franchise and Saban is not my choice I would chose 1 of these 5.

Yes it is similar to Pocoloco. Guess great minds think alike:rolleyes:

Fair list. I dont have Gruden that far up though. Say what you will, im not a Gruden fan(neither is my Bucs friend.) Id take Saban over him any day.

I generally break down coaches on coaching philosophy. The Belichik style is starting to really spread around the NFL with Mangini being the latest to be brought in. I actually believe Saban may be just as good if not better than Belichik. It seems from some articles I've read that Belichik holds Saban in the highest regard and it's difficult to figure who's the student and who's the mentor. Belichik has the hardware though. The one thing that concerns me is as more coaches install the Belichik style of coaching, the more teams figure out how to gameplan against it.

The way I view it this is the breakdown by coaching philosophy. You can mix up some of these categories, but this is how I view their primary styles. I know that there are some categories that dont seem to make sense like Marvin Lewis being in the power category with air palmer going nuts but his roots are stifling defense with power running. He adjusted greatly to his talent and let his talent dictate a more open game.

Belichik Style
1) Belichik
2) Saban
3) Crennel
4) Mangini

Parcells Style
1) John Fox
2) Bill Parcells
3) Tom Coughlin
4) Sean Payton

Power Football
1) Bill Cowher
2) Joe Gibbs
3) Marvin Lewis
4) Brian Billick
5) Lovie Smith
5) Jack Del Rio
6) Marty Schottenheimer
7) Mike Nolan

Cover 2 Coaches
1) Jon Gruden
2) Tony Dungy
3) Herm Edwards
4) Rod Marinelli

Asorted Styles
1) Jeff Fisher
2) Mike Shanahan
3) Jim Mora
4) Scott Linehan
5) Dennis Green

West Coast Style
1) Andy Reid
2) Mike Holmgren
3) Brad Childress
4) Mike McCarthy

The reason I break it down like this instead of 1-32 is what you want is a coach in the top 2 of any category and then you have a chance at a SuperBowl. Football evolves and no one style is going to dominate forever. We have the 2nd best and posibly best of the Belichik style and so should contend often once we get the right personnelll

I thought Parsells was the belechick style? BB does alot of things that Parsells always did like running a draw on 3rd and 5 at a key point in the game.

Yeah you could absolutely roll the two styles into one, but I think Belichik evolved the style somewhat into a more agressive and open type especially on offense. Defensively, they are the same. You could merge several of them, but the list is just how I distinguish them

wheres the love for john fox, at least on the defensive side of the ball?

edit: would help if i wasnt into the beer already and had bothered to read all the previous posts, sorry
