Blame WAKE? Again, drivel. There's SO MUCH going into why this "D" sucks. WAKE is the least--perhaps not a problem at all, really. It's simple: too many others aren't contributing. Try this:
1) The D-LINE--has done ZIPPO. No sacks, and not a helluva lot of "pressure". STARKS? Underachieving. MERLING? Zonk! LANGFORD? Not worth mentioning as to pass pressure. McDANIELS? Out! SOLIAI? Just not the same after his big payday.
2) ROLB--Repeat 3 times: "KOA MISI IS A BUST". Can you at least do THAT much? So, JT, supposed to be the SITUATIONAL player, has to put in too much time, AND IT SHOWS! MISI's suckiness has a rippling effect, don't you think? And the INCREDIBLY STUPID FO of this team in preseason tries to sneak a 6'5" 235-40ish ROLB, w/blazing speed, who showed something, onto the PRACTICE SQUAD because they're worried about "setting the edge" against the run. And CLEVELAND says "thank you, MIAMI"! (Well, at least N.E. didn't get him)
So, WAKE gets doubled and tripled ALL DAY, unlike say, D FREENEY, who has MATHIS on the other side. FREENEY gets help: WAKE gets s***, even though MIAMI had the "spittin' image" of a young JT right in its hands!!!!!!!!!!
And "setting the edge"? That's prehistoric football: in today's game, it's strictly secondary to getting pressure on the QB, because this is a passing-first League now. PARCELLSBALL is antiquated and useless. Even a POTENTIALLY great "D" will have an underlying STENCH, until all vestiges of PARCELLS and PARCELLSBALL are PURGED. And I DO MEAN "ALL VESTIGES"!!!
