This is just how I see it, so feel free to rip it apart and contribute your own thoughts. I probably forgot a lot of player, but this is the roster, minus some of the scrubs who none of us really know.

Offense as of right now:

QB: Culpepper / Lemon / Berlin
RB: Brown / Minor
FB: Beasely
WR: Chambers / Booker / Campbell / Welker
TE: McMichael / Pelle
OT: Shelton / Carey / Alabi / Pape
OG: James / Hadnot
Cc: McKinney / Smith

Thin on the O-Line, missing a backup QB, missing a legit 3rd reciever, and a backup running back

Defense, as of right now:

LE-Carter, Roth
NT-Traylor, Zgonina, Shaw
DT-Holiday, Wright, Vickerson
RE-Taylor, Bowens
SLB-Hodge, Spragan
MLB-Thomas, Pope
WLB-Crowder, Moore
CB-Allen, Daniels, Goodman, Poole, Jackson
SS-Hill, Tillman
FS-Bell

Weak in the secondary, missing an impact linebacker, and old at NT.

So, the question is, how do we use our remaining money and our draft picks to fill those holes?

Obviously, we need a vet QB to backup Culpepper, and it's my thinking that Tommy Maddox will get the shot. That doesn't thrill me, but it fits a need. We have a GM who's motto is that you always draft a QB, whether you need one or not, so expect one pick in thelater rounds to compete with Lemon and Berlin for a roster spot.

A backup RB is a priority if Ricky is axed by the league. Obviously, we have to play this one carefully and not react too soon. Signing a backup and then having Ricky be re0instated would be a waste of cash.

The Wide reciever role may have been filled by Kelly Campbell, but that's not an ideal third reciever in this league. Campbell, at least to my line of thinking, is a replacement for Brian Gilmore. A veteran would be my preference, hopefully signed late in free agency and for very little cash.

The offensive line is just plain thin. Their is no guy who can step in should their be an injury. Last year, we were lucky enough to have a fill-in (Stockar McDougle), but I just don't see that now. A cheap veteran would make sense here.

Defensively, we have old NT's. Traylor and Zgonina are solid players, but both are practically ancient by NFL standards. We should probably look into finding an eventual replacement, be it a young player already on the roster, or a draft pick.

Our linebackers, while solid, are not spectacular. No one, Zack included, puts fear into the hearts of a reciever coming over the middle, or can make a QB freak out and throw a bad pass. We need a stud, and that should be Lavar Arrington.

Our secondary needs serious attention. Will Allen is a nice second CB, and maybe Poole or Daniels becomes a starter, but it's kind of weak. We need a playmaker back there, and as of now, we need to use our first rounder to get him. Let's nab a safety with the pick and start him next to Hill.

Any differing opinions?

agree. lavar will put fear as porter did for Pittsy have put so much fear in QB's due to his blitzing ability and LaVar (can intercept correCT) should put fear in ppl crossing the middle or out in coverage as he can defend the pass as well and allowing taylor and carter attack the qb. as faar as SS/FS i think we need a BIG TIME play maker there or at CB. a potential star not just good players but a star.

from w3hat I recall seau was not good in pass coverage neither is spragan so tahts more downs and plays we gave away due to that.

who took seaus' spot during the injury? spragaN?

channing crowder WILL be a top linebacker in this league. i hate predictions but based on what i saw last season, im very impressed.

agreed with you...i think crowder will be a stud

I think Channing Crowder is going to be a really good lb,and I think he will cause fear for receivers, whoever going across the middle, becuase unlike Thomas, he's a pretty big, strong sob who can and will clean someone's clock when crossing the middle.

We still need 11 players on the field for defense, not 10. You have everyone playing LCB.

Just one: I believe Yeremiah Bell should start at Free Safety. Bell has been nickeling for too long.

Honestly, after looking at the lineup, it looks as though WR is the weakest position on the team. If we loose one of our startubg WR we are dead.

We have no one that makes the QB throw a bad pass? Have you heard of Jason Taylor? He's third in career sacks among current players, and opposing offenses know it.

Very intelligent analysis.

I agree in almost all aspects, except that I think O-Line should be the priority for the 1st round pick. We have all the starters in place on Offense except the O-Line. A few key pieces and our Offense will be the most well-rounded and have the most potential it's had in a loooooooooooong time.

Backups need to be addressed at QB, RB & WR.

On Defense, once again, excellent analysis save a few minor discrepencies.

The glaring need is the secondary. I think Allen starting at one CB spot and Daniels & Poole competing for the 2nd spot will create a good training-camp battle and elevate both of their performance levels. The loser will make a good 3rd CB/Nickel back.

We also have holes at FS & SS.

The good news is this is a DEEP draft at D-Back. I think we'll be able to get quality guys with our #2, 3 & 4 picks in the 3rd-5th rounds.

There are the other spots that need to be addressed but are not, IMO, as crucial as:

#1 - OT - We have a shot to get a franchise guy in the first round. Bring in one more affordable veteran and we'll be in good shape.

#2 - Best available FS and SS with our 3rd & 4th round picks.

Those 4 moves will fill all starting holes on both sides of the ball, and with our remaining Draft picks and FA money we can upgrade at OLB, bring in some youth at DT & DE, and add depth at QB, RB, WR and O-Line.

We may get really lucky and stumble into a kid we didn't think would be available at one of those positions and really get a steal like we did with Roth & Crowder.

I've been in a few live mock drafts and you'd be surprised how much talent is falling into the middle-late rounds.

i agree completly... sinorice moss...sinorice moss...

I truly think Wes Welker will surprise some of you next season, he always seems to come thru in the clutch. Now don't get me wrong I'm not dissing Chambers but how many balls has he dropped right in his hands. I still can't get the one from the 1st pats game out of my head. Chambers in the endzone sliding and he drops the apparent tying t.d. Welker reminds me a little of jurevicious. Keep an eye on him. But Chambers is still the man.:dolphins:
