Most of you and fans from other teams have indicated Taylor is no longer suited to play corner. Howard had a rough nite, but might play better in nickel scheme. I actually think Eiland played ok, and has potential. He was actually the fastest db out. Mitchell might be the fastest overall, but likely will not contribute this year. I was actually more concerned with safety play than corner play. Richard did get burned, but the safety was extremely slow getting over (Bua). I actually thought Richard hustled and played well for only being here a short time. He was better than some of the guys on the roster last year.
It is my humble opinion that Edwards should be cut. Give a younger player an opportunity. Where as I would say give Howard a few more opportunities, I can not say that for him.
I didn't see enough of Roundtree to get an opinion on him; same for Parker (did make a good special teams play). Sam showed his weakness in run support, but in all fairness he was on a blitz when the rb got past him and he could not change pace to get him. Daniels was a step slow, but you expect that in the first pre-season game. The major concern I would have would be finding another option other than Edwards. I predict he will not make the team, but the question is who else will.

One note on safety play. Bell and Tillman did ok but there is some serious issues with blown coverage and not getting over. Corners were on islands last nite. Safety play was ok over middle on tight ends, but not too good in offering help. The Bears struggled with this as well leading me to think it might be more the norm for the first game.

One other observation. Poor pressure on the quarterback did more than anything to expose secondary weakness.

madison, howard, edwards, daniels + there is room for another.

mitchell and poole are guys for the future.

we need to get another solid guy in with speed.

btw, i think we're set at safety. bell, tillman, schulters and jones are all solid. i think bua is going to need a hell of a lot of work, he's wildly overrated IMO.

I think our secondary will be better once our Dline/linebackers get a little more pressure. The Bears first possesion they looked pretty good. Then we could not get any pressure and Grossman and the other Bears' QBs had all day to pick out a wr.

You're kidding me right? The Bears had wide open receivers ALL night. The starters were lucky that Grossman was horrendous and his receivers dropped a few balls as well. Howard reminds me of Paul Lankford, constantly getting toasted. Edwards? Name one play he made. Where were the safeties all night? This secondary is horrible. We are going to sadly miss Surtain! This is by far the weekest link on our team. Weeker than the OL IMO.

-Edwards needs to go, period. There is no difference between him and Parker, Richard, Eiland. They are all equally bad and might as well go with the younger one's.

-I don't want to here the hamstring thing, if you are on the field you should be ready to go. With that said...Tebucky Jones looked terrible and IMO shouldn't be considered a starter right now.

-Schulters, yeah he is new, but even his instincts and tackling looked bad.

-Howard; the guy has good intentions, but flat out he just doesn't have the ability. He is a zone corner, period.

I honestly don't know if there IS anything we can do. I think we just have to go with what we think is best and suck it up for a year. I feel OK with Madison and Bell starting.

I agree. He laid the smack down on one guy last year, and all of the sudden who was the All-Pro dolphin. It was a he!! of a hit though.

The secondary needs work! I dont think that is news yet. What worries me is Maddison didnt look good at all last night.

Man, guys lets not be too critical here, it was the first preseason game... The defense didn't scheme anything it was just guys trying to fit in and make plays. Rex Grossman only had 77 yards and the one long pass was the only blown coverage by the starters. Had that not been given his numbers would have been no better than Feeley's (who I thought didn't play badly either).

i dont honestly see where we are going to get a kwality starting calibre CB from... they are hot commodities, its not like there are any hot FAs about... maybe Ty Law would have been a nice addition.

Yeah it may be the weak link but we haven't got any better and are gonna have to make do with what we have.

And doesn;t that concern you just a little? I know that schemes will help the secondary out. However, I feel that after the top 4 of Madison, Daniels, Bell and Shulters (he'll be starting soon IMO) we are VERY weak! Saban will be checking out those waiver wires for some secondary help!
