I just wondered, and really wish some NFl expert would go back some day and rate Marino under this new QBR system they have, just to see how high Dan really would have been ???
I just saw it explained on Sportscenter, and under the new QBR rating, many things are added and taken into consideration. For example, a 4th quarter pass in a tough situation, maybe going for a 1st down,or needed to keep a drive going,or a needed touchdown pass, etccc, is rated much higher than a completed pass of the same type, say in the 2nd quarter, because it is later in the game, and in a tougher situation. we all know Dan led many 4th quarter comebacks and made some great passes in those situations.
Many other new things they they have as well in this new rating system,to evaluate the overall total Quarterback rating,to many to get into now,but basically the new QBR rates everything a QB does, and specifies certain points of the game he did them in,and the more crucial the play or circumstances, the more of a possible higher,or lower rating, depending on how he performed in those really "under pressure situations and times". So its not just so much based on passing effeciency as before, but how crucial those passes and plays were, when needed the most, in other words.
Hope I havent confused anyone, hell I watched it and now after trying to explain part of it, its hard to ! lol But I do understand what theve done, just hope I explained it to where it comes across to all.
Anyway, I honestly wonder how Marino would have rated under this new system, and how you all think he would have as well ? I personally think it would have made his statistics that much more glowing, and prove even more how great of a QB he really was.
