Okay, here is a hypothetical for you..

Let say all of the top 3 QBs (Leinart, Young, and Cutler) fail in the NFL. Consider that they are all top 10 picks. Yet, they all go down in NFL history as first round busts.

Which team will look worse? The team that drafts Cutler, Leinart, or Young?

(There is a point to this btw:D)

The one that takes Leinart I think

Since everyone seems to worship the ground the Bust...I mean the guy walks on people will blame everyone BUT him when he busts

EDIT- It also depends who goes where, if a team passes on the other two to take Cutler then in the long run they will look the worst if they bust

Probably Young, because the closed-minded masses will shake their heads and say, "They should have known. Running QBs never succeed in the NFL."

I guess you could make a good case for Young, but I choose Cutler.

Why? Because there is significant evidence available now (before the draft) that would foreshadow his failure.

Such as-
1. His winning record as a starter in college
2. His known tendancy for making bad decisions
3. Playing for a poor team
4. Not playing in any big games (Bowl games)

You could look back on a guy like Jay Cutler in a few years and say " What the hell did they see in that guy?"

Leinart I would guess would make the team look less incompetant because everybody expected him to do very well.

Young could be looked at in many ways. Some would say that running QBs never make it in the NFL and others would say that you have to take a chance on a guy like Vince Young.

The reason I brought this whole thing up is because I believe that many teams pick players with this in mind.

Do you mean losing record as a starter in college? Other than that, I get what you're saying.

1. His winning record as a starter in college Most NFL personel realize football is a team game
2. His known tendancy for making bad decisions "Gunslinger" mentality has been said about many Qbs
3. Playing for a poor team So unlike Young and Leinart he knows how to handle the struggles and growing pains their all bound to have. Sounds like a positive to me.
4. Not playing in any big games (Bowl games) No bowl games no but played in a much tougher conference than the other two and was a 4 year starter.

Nice try.

how many bowl games did elway play in? how many bowl games has vanderbilt been in the 20 years before cutler got there? the answer to both is 0.

I think it will be Jay Cutler. Nothing against him but I don't think he's as good as Leinart or Young.

You totally missed the whole point of the entire thread.

Im not trying to knock Jay Cutler. Heck I would be thrilled if the Dolphins draft him.

All I am saying is that every one of these guys has a knock on them. And should they not succeed, it would look bad for their respective team. Some scenarios would be worse than others.

Vince Young.,,,,the next Michael Vick.....not what I would want as my QB.
