I only compared his offense to Miami because people here are familiar with the players on Miami.

And nobody is advocating bringing in McCoy. The question was "who got the most out of their players". If you are saying McCoy should not even have been considered as a coordinator who gets the most out of his players, then you didnt watch any Denver games this year. The question the OP asked was not about what style you prefer, it was about efficiency.

In fact plenty of people on this forum are advocating exactly that.

Well if we're talkinbg about all Coordinators, OC, DC and ST... Its hard not to bring up Toub who's unit been top-5 in ALL aspects of special teams, not just returns and not just with hester back there... His unit as been straight up Elite for a long long time...

Detroit actually has A LOT of talent in the passing game with Titus Young, Nate Burleson, Brandon Pettigrew, and Tony Scheffler. Their problem was that once Best got hurt, they had no threat of a running game.

As much as I like Chud, he really doesn't fit the topic. He had Greg Olsen, Jeremy Shockey, Steve Smith, Brandon LaFell, DeAngelo William, Jonathan Stewart and Cam Newton. Plus a pretty decent OL.

I happen to really like Zimmer but to be fair they didn't beat Pitt or Baltimore they didn't beat a single playoff bound team and only beat one team w/ a winning record(9-7 Tennessee).

True enough. What i meant by that statement was they survived in a tough division and made the playoffs. Bit different then what, say, Denver did, backdooring into a divisional title.

Cincy did catch some breaks but that shouldnt diminish what Zimmer did(and it doesnt seem like you are). As good as Green and Dalton were this season, that team lived or died on a defense that didnt have lot of "named" players.

While ive been vocal about Chud, if the question is "who did the most with the least" that would undoubtably be Mike Zimmer. Without question.

The Bengals rode a defense full of no name players into the playoffs despite playing in one of the tougher divisions in football. That was after losing their best player to free agency. Zimmer did an outstanding job.

I think this defense was over rated when you play against 9 teams that
average 25th in points scored and 25th average in total offensive yards

Rick Dennison deserves a strong shout on this basis. If you look at the constant stream of injuries the Texans have had to deal with, between Matt Schaub, Matt Leinart, Arian Foster and Andre Johnson...to be able to roll on the way they have is very impressive. His offense is extremely cohesive and sound. Very rarely could you say that the pass set up the run, because Schaub, Foster and Johnson hardly ever played together this year (think I heard they only had all three healthy for like one quarter of one game, something ridiculous like that). The pass continually sets up the run and the run continually sets up the pass by virtue of design, not by virtue of success...which I like. And when you get down to it, that entire offense from top to bottom is coached extremely well on execution, which is a marker that you're looking for.

That's making a strong case against Zimmer right there. I hadn't looked at that before. Might explain why some years Zimmer's defense is really good and other years not so much....it would seem Cincy runs hot and cold every other year. After they make the playoffs the following year they fall flat, then with a weaker schedule they're back in the playoffs.

Zimmer did have the #1 defense when he ran the 3-4 under Parcells in Dallas once...generally his Dallas defenses were very solid and that #1 defense didn't have a lot of stars on it.

Coordinator and head coach are two completely different jobs. One is very analytical, about Xs and Os, and a lot of film study. The other is about management - man management, clock management, media management etc

While I wouldn't want to hire a coordinator who had been a complete failure, if anything I'd be against hiring a great coordinator because chances are that is what they are best suited to

That is why he getting serious consideration. The man can coach. His specialty is special teams. There is strategy involved there as well. Not to mention he is using the bottom of his roster talent.
Mike Westoff comes to mind as well.
