It doesn't look like Ross will leave any time soon, so is there hope for us?

Have there been instances where a team has been able to overcome bad ownership to compete for championships?

The one that comes to mind is the Saints, who managed to step into success by hiring a coach and landing Brees.

Can you think of any others?

Isn't the Panthers owner usually looked at in a bad light?

When it comes to money for players, Ross is the guy you actually want as your owner. He is willing to spend whatever his GM wants.

So what we have to hope for is not for this team to overcome Ross, but to hope the guys he put in charge as head coach and GM can work together and are good at their job. At this point you have to hope he lucks into that. I know a lot of people have turned sour on Philbin, but I still think there is some hope with him. He certainly has flaws and deserves to be on the hot seat this season, but he can still be the coach to lead them back into the playoffs. He almost accomplished that this past season.

The thing with Ross is he's going to be forced to shop at the bargain bin for head coach and GM moving forward. He has to be very thorough during the interview process and hire the right unknown guy.

Bidwell in Arizona and Cards made Super Bowl a few years ago and have been decent for about the last decade.

Mike Brown has a reputation of being extremely tight-fisted in Cincy and they've made playoffs last three years.

A great quarterback can overcome bad ownership as we saw with Brees in New Orleans and Kurt Warner in Arizona.

Since Clark Hunt took over the Chiefs in 2007 after his his father's passing, they had 5 of 6 losing seasons prior to going 11-5 in 2013. It looks like they're finally starting to turn it around under his control.

Mike Brown is awful but the Bengals are a decent team that nobody really dogpiles on anymore. If anything the Ross model has worked for him. Stick with your coach for a long time, and eventually the stories just go away.

Bud Adams might have been worse than Dan Snyder but the Titans made it within a yard of going to overtime in the Super Bowl.

Bidwill's already been mentioned, great call there. Awful ownership and yet they're somehow finally getting their act together.

Dan Snyder's far and away the worst owner in the NFL and the Redskins are basically screwed forever with him in charge. He's a lot younger than Ross, too. Could be worse.
