This is a a thread that can go all over the place, and shoud be fun.

Which Phins players are best at their position in the division, and/or the AFC?

How many were best before Tuna & Co? Gonna be a short list. I got into debates on our players being able to start for any other team.

How many will be best? A bit of speculation.

Oh well, here we go.

Jake Long for best LT in the East. Maybe Will Allen for best CB and Porter for best OLB, but both only in the division. Long would be the only guy you could make a case for in the entire AFC, but I still like Joe Thomas and Michael Roos at this point. I do think Long can surpass them though.

A year ago, I would not have put any Phin at the best at his position in the division, let alone the AFC.

Now, I put Long, Polite, Ronnie, Fasano, and Carey as BEST in the division, and VERY close to the best in the AFC.

This upcoming season, I can see Grove chiming in, and maybe even Smiley as far as the division.

I live in Miami Beach, and Aqua colered glasses don't work. :)

i agree with ronin and maybe ronnie it would be him and marshawn lynch i personally think that thomas jones is overrated idc about the numbers ronnie will shock the league this season and marshawn will do his thing the pats have a decent running game but dont have any standout rb in my eyes maroney hasnt really impressed me but it could be his season

Pennington was the best QB in the division last year and may well be that again this year if Brady struggles. Porter was the best pass rushing LB in the division.
But you don't always win with the most "best at their position" players (as evidenced by our championship last year). The best team is not always the best individuals. Coaching, attitude, playing error free, leadership, unity, hard work, preparation, and effort often will out score a lot of talent on the other team. Just look at some of our Olympic basketball teams made up of super talented NBA players that were embarassed by other teams with half the talent but 3 times the team concept.

Lynch is gonna find out what it's like to run behind a bad OL. Jones is gonna find out what it's like to run when there are 8-9 guys in the box.

Well said, and agreed. However, some talent is a good thing.

I totally agree Southbeach 2. The more talent the better! I'm hoping some of those Dolphin players you mentioned as being "very close" to the best become THE BEST this year. I wish we had acquired a tall, fast true #1 receiver this offseason. But, alas, Randy Mosses and Terrell Owenes don't grow on trees.

According to SI's Don Banks, some teams are rethinking the "#1" receiver idea. Especially when #1 receivers tend to be divas.

I think the Dolphins are one of them.

Turner is going to surprise. I watched a number of USC games, and he is VERY much like Keyshawn. Penny is gonna love his hands.

I'm NOT saying he is anywhere as good but watch him. He is gonna surprise.

Jake Long for sure..............Also Ronnie brown if healthy can do some damage.

We are forgetting Ted Ginn on special teams. I believe he is going to break a few long returns this year.

jones already had to do that in chicago and was pretty successful

Jake Long Best LT and Veron Carey Best RT in the AFC. Ronnie Brown best RB in the East and Dan Carpenter best K in the East.
