Which of these 3 QB's interests you more?

Which QB, just by going off of stats, interests you the most?

Their college stats from their Junior and Senior Years:

Quarterback #1:

Comp.--- Att.--- Comp. %--- Yards--- TD--- Int.
226------ 386 ----59.5-------- 2,876--- 37---- 23
221------ 378 ----58.4-------- 2,432--- 17 ----23
________________________________________________________
447 ------764 ----58.5-------- 5,308--- 54---- 46

- 4 year starter at QB
- 4.89 seconds in the 40 yard dash

Quarterback #2:

Comp.--- Att.--- Comp. %--- Yards--- TD--- Int.
152 ------234 ----65.0 --------1,638--- 13---- 6
327------ 531 ----61.6-------- 3,744 ---29--- 15
_________________________________________________________
479 ------765---- 62.6-------- 5,382--- 42--- 21

- 2 year starter at QB
- 4.62 seconds in the 40 yard dash

Quarterback #3:

Comp.---Att.--- Comp. %--- Yards ---TD--- Int.
342----- 511 ----66.9 --------4,277 ---34---- 13
408----- 564 ----72.3-------- 4,727--- 37---- 13
___________________________________________________________
750 ----1075---- 69.8--------9,004 ----71---- 26

- 2 year starter at QB
- 4.92 seconds in the 40 yard dash

QB #1: Dan Marino
QB #2: Ryan Tannehill
QB #3: Brandon Weeden

DISCLAIMER: I am in no way trying to say that Tannehill or Weeden are, or will be, the next Dan Marino. I was just curious and checked out some college stats, and just thought it would be an interesting post for discussion. I also realize their are hundreds of other things to evaluate and scrutinize in coming to a complete and unbiased comparison between QB's, but for the sake of time and simplicity just went with stats for discussion.

Good post. Marino had a poor senior year throwing lots of INTS. He was still a first rounder that teams passed up because of the INTs.

Many GMs will still state it depends on the scheme you want to run.

I can remember that draft with the rumors that Dan was using drugs, and that there were concerns over the health of his knees. I wonder what finheaven's reaction to him being our #1 draft pick would have been back then? Interesting, I am sure.

Marino's poor senior year plus rumors of cocaine use is the reason he fell to 27 and the Dolphins were able to draft him.

Probably the same as it is for every player discussed here. I'm sure if we were picking first there would be some here that wouldn't want Andrew Luck and would prefer we take Kalil or DeCastro #1.

Let's also consider that Marino played in an offense that wanted to run, not a WCO or spread like the other two. Offenses were not as explosive when Dan played. Consider also that Marino was in the NFL 4 years by now compared to Weeden. Numbers, statistics, they tell the story you want them to.

Thus...This was included:

Kudos on the innovative, out of the box approach; knew you were going for the Tannehill and Weeden angle but the Marino wrinkle was an eye opening surprise (although granted, it was a different time in a faraway place). Also knew Weeden was #3 and while he'd definitely be my first choice, if Sherman can convince Philbin Tannehill's the one, I'd be perfectly content going that route too.

In 1983? The reaction would've been "wait, did Shula just draft a player with an alleged cocaine habit to play in the drug capital of the US? ok, sounds bad but I'll trust Shula, he's earned it"

Yea, if finheaven were around then, this board would have EXPLODED!

Different eras, differnet rules, different schemes.

You cant compare QB stats when they played 30 years apart.

That was not the only reason that teams past him up....there were a lot of rumors that he smoked pot in his senior year and that may have caused him to fall off...even Don Shula made a lot of calls about the pot smoking before he grabbed him...

World of difference between college 30 years ago and today. If I remember correctly, the starting WRs and other offensive players were seniors when Marino was a junior so Marino didn't have much talent around him his senior year. There were also reports of partying being a problem for the team which Marino got lumped in with. Marino's junior season in which he threw 37 TD passes and a come from behind victory over Georgia was a much better predictor of Marino's talents.

Well, the team was two years off of a Super Bowl appearance and 12 years removed from their back to back SB wins then. Kinda hard to compare the two situations.
