As a sports fan, which is better.

The Dolphins under Marino, who had winning seasons every year, always made the playoffs, were always talked about as one of the league's top teams, but never won a championship.

OR

The Marlins since their inception. Two world series wins in 15 years, but pretty much a laughingstock the rest of the time.

Would you want to go through 6 seasons just like last year's in exchange for 1 superbowl every 7th year or so? Or would you rather make the playoffs every year but never win the championship?

Please comment on why you made the selection you did in the poll.

Championships override all, in my opinion. The Marlins won both of their championships in dramatic fashion, as well.

Answer this question, would you rather be the media-darling, league dominant Patriots or the Super Bowl Champion Giants?

It's such a shame we couldn't eek out a Super Bowl victory for Dan.

Sidebar: I hope the Marlins streak continues. :woot:

Marino's years.....especially since I am a Phillie's fan and don't like the Marlins.

Guys you're missing the point here....it doesn't matter if you don't like baseball or don't like the Marlins.

What I'm asking is would you go through 6 seasons just like last year in exchange for 1 superbowl win? And have that cycle repeat every 7-8 years.....or would you rather have a winning team every single year but never win a superbowl?

The Buffalo Bills went through that in the 1990s.

We laugh at them about it now. Remember?

That would be a completely gut-wrenching roller coaster ride to have to go through. But as starved as we are for a SuperBowl (35 years), I'd have to go with the Marlins model.

What is this Marlinheaven? Who cares about the Marlins. They have cost us games in the past with the ridiculous infield dirt

Unfortunately u have to go with the Marlins . . . . if u guarantee me a championship every 6 or 7 years . . . I can endure the bad seasons knowing that.

Of course the Marlins were LUCKY both years they won . . . and it is impossible to guarantee any championship . . . so this is a fantasy question. Obviously a team in the NFL can't really turn it around over night after bad season after season and win a Super Bowl . . . I know New Orleans was close 2 years ago. In baseball, its easier . . . you have a farm system and no salary cap . . . in 97 we bought the championship (just about) . . . in 2003 our farm system produced alot of studs that are now making big money elsewhere . . . . its just impossible to compare baseball and football . . . baseball depends more on individual players . . . football is more team orientated.

You could compare that to the fact that a poor NFL team would year in and year out have high draft picks. If they drafted well it would be like the Marlins farm system; a good group of guys hitting their prime all at one time.

So it could be similar... I guess.

True . . . but I think a team that constantly has high picks eventually has salary issues . . . and it cripples them . . . in baseball . . . that lack of a cap really is a huge factor in a team's constant success (but doesn't guarantee a WS win . . . ask the Yankees) . . . and you can see your prospects improvement in A, AA, or AAA ball.

A team who picks top 5 every year is gonna have problems forever . . . because more than likely several of those picks are busts . . . and they have to endure that cap hit for the duration of that 5 or 6 year deal.
