Whitlock- Dolphins prison yard mentality

Here we go.

The Al Sharpton of sportswriters has chimed in.

Did Not Read of course.

That is not fair at all, Whitlock is one of the best out there. he tells it like he sees it no matter who is offended and he is my favorite sportswriter b/c of it. He'll bash white, black, whoever. I don't always agree w/ what he writes but I do most of the time. he's great.

Maybe I'm crazy...but who cares how the writing was? He compared an NFL lockerroom to a prison yard. I think that comparison is just so over the top.
With the way NFL players get arrested these days, it isn't exactly a stretch.

For you guys defending the article, you don't have a clue, and neither does Whitlock, how the players should feel. I don't like Incognito's use of language. But it was telling how the players reacted. Just respect and accept what they universally say. That tells you what you need know. Whitlock is not in the locker room and does not know the dynamic. For all we know Incognito has done nothing but have other guys' backs. People tend to appreciate that. Meanwhile Martin obviously didn't garner respect with his character-less persona.
I do have a clue. I live in a society where people throw out the n word like it's common and decent language. I have as valuable of an opinion on it as any football player. In fact, I work in a prison, so I get to see their use of it as well. It's a disrespectful term no matter the context or who uses it. Intelligent people understand this.

I found this part of the article to be quite interesting.

"I'm black. And I totally understand the genesis of this particular brand of stupidity and self-hatred. Mass Incarceration, its bastard child, Hurricane Illegitimacy, and their marketing firm, commercial hip-hop music, have created a culture that perpetrates the idea that authentic blackness is criminal, savage, uneducated and irresponsible. The tenets of white supremacy and bigotry have been injected into popular youth culture. The blackest things a black man can do are loudly spew the N-word publicly and react violently to the slightest sign of disrespect or disagreement."

I'd be interested to know what type of music he listens to.

but let me guess, you agree with him on this article, but take issue with his Jets an Embarrassment To The NFL 10/2012 one? http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/...nchez-santonio-holmes-an-embarrassment-100812

or maybe his 12/2010 one which attacks Rex, calls him a clown and embarrassment (wife pimping footsie gate) and declares he needs to start acting like a coach (during the jets best year no less)???
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/...w-Yorkk-Jets-coach-latest-embarassment-122310
And if you question his judgment and pronouncements on these.. shouldn't you do the same with his off the wall analogies here? If we agree with him on the jets articles, should we necessarily agree on this prison yard comparison? Or do you get a thumbs up for at least being consistent on all 3 mentioned?

I'm sure you're gonna come up with some sdmarmy answer, but am willing to be pleasantly surprised

What I can't understand is, with so many books, articles, documentaries and internet access, these "boys" can't take a couple of days to read about their history. Maybe half of them can't read. I say "boys" because these guys don't get to be called men.

color me not surprised that whitlock would go this route...to read his stuff he comes across as one of the biggest racist in the media

Actually, you don't. Intelligent people understand the limits of the scope of what they know and don't know. You aren't there. The language may have been poor but the players obviously gave him a mulligan because actions speak louder than words for some people.

Actually I agree w/ him on those. I don't know enough about the martin case(not as much as you do from being in the LR apparently) to give my final opinion.

you don't read his stuff if you think that. White people think he is racist towards whites, black people think he is racist towards blacks. It's sort of like the announcers everyone thinks roots against their teams. he is very fair.

I don't think he's overtly racist against either. But he IS a race-baiter. That cannot be argued, as he writes every single piece through the prism of race while trying to vilify at least one entity with overt and outlandish accusations. And therefore, he is a huge hack.

I think he discusses real issues. He's not afraid of race which most are and b/c he is black he can get away w/ that where a white writer wouldn't be able to.

that's what i should have said...thanks for correcting me...he is a HUGE race baiter...everythings about race...whether it is or not...i don't know to me that kinda comes across as a racist if it's always on your mind and your first thought

Comparing the Dolphins locker room to a state pen because Richie Incognito drunkenly messed (verbally, at that) with a mentally soft person IS NOT A REAL ISSUE.

Actually, I do. I understand how people "use"the term, but I'm smart enough to know it is not a respectful term to use in any context. I believe it is you that has difficulty understanding the obvious.
