Very rarely do I read anything that Whitlock writes. This is evidence of why.
That's a flawed list. Zorn and Harbaugh had considerably more to work with going into the season than did fellow rookie coach Tony. Smith gets props for reorganizing the psyche of a screwed up team, but he did have an elite caliber WR, DE and an already acceptably performing D. Gruden and Fox are good coaches, but their batting averages aren't much better than the missing Shanahan in terms of reaching the promised land. Coughlin is a fine coach although long in the tooth. Belicheat is having a good year overcoming real obstacles and being deneutered without his all evrything QB and his video camera, but he's still a pompous diquehead and cheat. Lovie deserves to be on the list.
From the perspective of weaving silk out of a sow's ear, no one has done a more impressive job than Tony. NO ONE!!!
Aside from maybe Whisenhunt, I can't think of a HC I'd rather have for this team at this time and to build on and carry us into the future.
Miami was a bad team. Atlanta was a troubled team. Not sure that Smith had any more to work with then sparano. I think many thought Atlanta might be a worse team this year with a rookie Qb.

thats your opinion, but Atlanta was basically just as devoid of talent as we were. In fact I think we should have had a better record than Atlanta last year. Im not sure why we dont want to give credit to anybody outside of our team. Atlanta was awful last year.
