While the Miami Dolphins may have addressed some depth chart issues during the offseason and the draft, they did not touch the linebacker position. Depending on how you look at our current crop of linebackers, this could be good or bad news. Based on how they played last season, well, that is a mix of both.

Returning from last seasons starting lineup, the Miami Dolphins have both Koa Misi and Jelani Jenkins. While it looks certain that Jenkins will remain a starter — at least into the first part of the season — Misi’s position looks to be a little more questionable at the moment.
With the addition of Kiko Alonso from the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason, Alonso should slot into the middle linebacker role alongside Jenkins, solidifying both positions. However, with a third starting linebacker needed, who will the Dolphins turn to when looking to fill the final starting spot.
Looking over the Miami Dolphins current roster, there looks to be three players that are capable of filling the final linebacker spot. All three bring some NFL experience with them and could potentially find a starting role within the aging Miami Dolphins defense.

First off is the aforementioned Koa Misi. A starting linebacker and role player for the Miami Dolphins since he arrived on the scene, Misi could use his experience and time with the Dolphins to his advantage in this situation. Should he remain consistently solid, Misi will be the favorite for the final starting linebacker position.

Next up is a player that played for all three of the Florida based NFL franchises last season, James-Michael Johnson. Playing in sixteen games for the Kansas City Chiefs in both 2013 and 2014, Johnson was a journeyman role player last season, changing teams twice during the course of the season.
With very little NFL starting experience, Johnson will have something to prove entering training camp. Regaining his early career form could also be something that not only earns him a role in the linebacker corps, but also saves his job with the Miami Dolphins.

Finally, we come to Zach Vigil. My personal favorite to win the starting job, Vigil has made an impact on the coaching staff thus far this offseason. Should he continue to both improve and impress, Vigil has the talent and youth needed to become a stalwart in the Miami Dolphins linebacker corps for many years.

" they did not touch the linebacker position" ???

Kiko Alonso is a linebacker and mentioned in the article. I'm not sure English comprehension is a requirement at Yahoo. What a poorly written article

Dion Jordan

I actually think this is the answer the coaches are hoping for. There were rumors about Jordan as just a OLB prospect and I think he's a good fit for the 4-3 under look that they have said they will play. A look of Mario Williams, Jason Jones, Ndamukong Suh, Cameron Wake and Dion Jordan could be a hell of a pass rush under a 4-3 Under.

why even mention zach vigil with neville hewitt on the roster? what an a-hole.

Hewitt is a WLB ... the only job he's taking would be Jelani's.

Jordan's suspension plays games with his contract, entering a legal term where the contract is said to have "tolled," which is essentially making it so the 2015 season did not happen, and keeping him in the third year of the contract. That would mean that Jordan's salary cap hit from 2015 - which was not applied due to his being suspended for the year - would become his salary cap hit in 2016 ($5.36 million), with his $3.22 million hit moving to 2017. (To further explain, the salary cap pro-rate still counted in 2015, which accounted for a $3.07 million cap number for the Dolphins, but no salary counts, and in 2017, because the signing bonus was already accounted for over the original four-years of the contract, there would be no signing bonus pro-rated amount in the final season of his contract, which is why his cap number goes down in 2017, while his salary and roster bonus increase.) Miami could elect to cut or trade Jordan once he is reinstated, or they could keep him, looking to find a role for a player who could still have potential, or, cynically, they could hold on to him, see if he fails another drug test, and then gain back the entire salary cap hit again.

I think Misi wins the job and is promptly injured for the entire season.

Yes, I like to make safe bets. :)

This is the most likely outcome. I'm personally hoping Dion Jordan emerges from the shadows and makes his career worthwhile at SLB. He's got a hell of a lot more raw potential than most of our other options

Lmao, people still think Jordan is going to convert to linebacker?

Why? Why Would you evn think that's an option? Teaching Dion Jordan a brand new position. I'm sure our new staff can't wait!

He's DE depth at best.
