Who forgives ricky for what he did?

i like this post....it is probably the most realistic comprehensive viewpoint of the situation.
Win at all costs is what I read into that. So if Ricky is up on rape charges, I guess we just take the good with the bad right?

OK, had to throw my two cents into the arena. What in your right mind makes you think that Ricky Williams NEEDS your forgiveness (or mine for that matter). Does the fact that he hurt your feelings make it so bad that you feel he needs to apologize to you personally? Seriously? Get over it!!!!

I don't care about why he quit, I don't care about the coaching, or the drugs, or the o-line or his " character". Let me ask this, how many points did we score last year for having " good wholesome" players on the field? I want a number give me how many points that we scored due to good character (this would be on top of our TD's, PAT's FG's, and safeties)? I'm pretty down with the rule books and I must have missed the section on where you get bonus points for having upstanding players on your squad.

He is an ENTERTAINER just like everyone else on the field. We pay them to entertain us through the venue of sports. I don't pay him to be an upstanding citizen, or a "hero" (which is a whole other topic I will be more then glad to argue about). I pay ALL of them to ENTERTAIN me. Last season they did a bad job I was not entertained, this season looks to be better thank g-d.

If he has a million chances and still is successfully then so be it it is not my position to give him those chances. It is my position to abstain from buying his merchandise, it is within my power to boo him, it is withing my power to teach my children what he did off the field is wrong. It is my position to voice my opinion and respect the opinions of others with a civilized debate (as can be found right here on this site for example). It is the dolphins organization's responsibility to decide if he wears aqua and orange again. Theres no use bitching or moaning about it. cause there ain't Shiite you can do about it!! (except to post this same topic under 40 different headers for the last 3 months straight)

The second he dons the aqua and orange I am a fan of his as I am the entire roster for better or for worse, My die hard fan-ism is like a marriage you gotta take the good with the bad, like it or leave it.

Being a season ticket holder, just like you, I happen to think I'm of very sound mind when I say he needs to address the team, his teamates, and the fans. Dang right I do! It's not about being a b*tch who had his feelings hurt. It's about trust, and will he do it again? Is he going to give it his all, or run out of bounds like he did in his second year?

He turn coated this organization, the fans, the owner, and the NFL, and his players union. He is a traitor, and a snitch. It's not about having wholesome players, it's about being STAND UP, not upstanding.

To me entertainment is secondary. This is a game a lot of us have passion for(not saying you dont), and while we are entertained, the game has meaning. I love a good run, or a good pass, but it's about who scores more, not just about how they do it.

Like you said, you have your right to your opinions, but In my posts you don't see me trying to lure everyone from the dark side. I just give my side, over, and over.

I know I have to deal with it. I know I cant do nothing about it, but I will boo, which is something I've never done.

I'm not hurt, I'm still pissed at him.

Sorry to double post, but I've had kind of an epiphany as to why forgiving Ricky is irrelevant for me.

I have a strong emotional attachment to the Dolphins. With very few exceptions (Dan Marino being one of them), I have very few strong emotional attachments to (or demands on) players. In this era of free agency, I don't think you can afford to. For instance, I think Chambers, McMichael and Taylor are great players, but I don't have a huge emotional identification with them as individuals. Zach Thomas is about the only current player I pin any personal devotion to right now. I still am in ecstasy when the team wins and in agony when the team loses. But as far as personal grudges or worship goes .. not so much.

So I don't feel the need to forgive Ricky or get an apology from him. If he helps the team win, I'll be glad. If he drags the team down, I'll be upset. But I'm not expecting him to take me out to dinner or send me flowers because he's done me wrong. I just don't need that.

I do think Ricky needs to reconcile himself to the team, and I think that will happen (if it hasn't already) if the team thinks he can help them reach their goal: winning.

too big a what if....you cant compare a rapist to a guy that was self medicating himself in the best way he knew how. his medication interfered with his weight training program.

I don't think the league would have him in uniform in that scenario. But in general, if a player is good enough to play according to NFL policies, that's good enough for me. I don't hold players to any higher standard than their own league does.

That's fine, but I'm not looking for flowers, I'm looking for a reason not to want to kick him in the (_ )_). All hypothetical of course.

This team can win without him, that's for sure. It's already been proven under the same sorry coach, with a lesser caliber Rb. They went 11-5 and got a playoff birth, something never reached with Ricky helping them. I'm not saying he stinks. That would be foolish, but to me when everyone says he'll help them win, I don't buy it.

I'm not sure he'll help us win either. That remains to be seen.

But I don't buy into this notion that we have to have a "Let the Healing Being" festival opened by parading him down U.S. 1 in donkey ears before evaluating his worth to the team.

Yeah I kinda want an apology to the season ticket holders as well.. but don't tell any one :D As far as your upstanding vs. stand up... You are dead on I just never addressed that. I wasn't trying to lure anyone over, so I apologize if it came off that way. I'm so neutral on the topic its crazy, however sometimes I think peoples vision needs re-alignment (mine too)

I totally agree. I tried to say the same thing yesterday but you said it more clearly than me. Nice post. :)

At this point, Donkey Ears is a bit nice.....

I feel he owes the fans, as well, and especially the ones who spent plenty last year, just to see HIM. That would not be me, but I still paid plenty......

Totally fair. :peace:

I will forgive ricky when he 1. apologizes to fans and players. 2. when he runs over PATS, JETS, and BILLS players...

Do you live by the NFL standards guidebook or something?? Geez I think it's time for your random urine test Doc.

HERE WE GO AGAIN. CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG.... He obviously brings up feelings in everyone because I don't think there is one day that I don't see a Ricky posting up here. Not that I mind. To me he did what HE had to do. The only realy affect it had on me is that I couldnt wear the 350.00 Jersey that I bought. Bottom line it's like I say about clinton. He doesn't owe me an appology he owes one to his family and that's it. Ricky should appologise to his team mates and only those who were DIRECTLY affected by his leaving. Yea it sucked for us cause the fins sucked but would you have rather have watched him take a beating us finish 8-8 and NOT get a #2 pick? In the long run i think it will have done more to help us then to hender us.
