I find the defensive line roster battles interesting. Who do you have making the team (barring injury)? Can we keep ten guys? Here is a crack at it:

Locks: Suh, Williams, Wake, Phillips

Likely: Mitchell, Branch

Good shot: Fede, McCain, Jason Jones, Chris Jones

Practice squad: Clubber Laing, DeAndre Coleman

PUP: Jordan. He's a mess right now.

Thoughts?

Just read VJ said 5 DEs/4DTs. If that is cast is stone, one of the Jones boys is gone is gone. Wild card = DJ, but that decision is weeks away.

In the first pre-season game Chris McCain looked like the player Jordan was suppose to become.

I still cant believe our past staff, and a lot of people here, advocated for him to transition into a linebacker, what a waste last year was. He looked really good in his first game back at DE.

I've said from the getgo that DJ will never make it as a LB, nor will McCain...theyre too tall and long and not stout enough to shed blockers coming at them full speed..they need to be on the edges rushing the passer as a 4-3 DE/3-4 OLB, plus DJ can cover Gronk and both are solid ST guys

I just don't see how Chris McCain doesn't make this team. He's been disruptive all offseason.

I'd still make Jordan an OLB, best fit, DE is jam packed and OLB needs some help.

Can we cut jordan and get rid of this distraction once and for all.

DT Warmsley looked good and was credited with 2 sacks and a forced fumble. i would not count him out just yet.

I think Wake, Williams, Branch, and Jason Jones are all givens at DE, and at this point Chris McCain looks like the 5th DE. IMHO Fede and Lang are the odd men out at DE though either could get the nod if they outperform McCain through the rest of the preseason.

At DT, Suh and Phillips are the only two that are absolutely safe. I think Chris Jones may be more secure than Mitchell simply because he is cheaper. Mitchell probably sticks, but if one of Coleman or Warmsley really steps up their game his price tag could make him expendable.

this

Mitchell was terrible last season in my opinion and if Phillips steps up plus those you mentioned we can move on.

I would say that as of right now McCain and Fede are vying for one spot, I don't really want to lose either, but if I had to choose, I'd take Fede, he's stronger at the point of attack, and is good on ST, where McCain seems to be more of a situational guy.

DT) Suh, Phillips, Mitchell and C Jones.

DE) Wake, Williams, Branch, J Jones and Fede.

I don't see where Phillips is a lock. I'd like him to be, but he hasn't shown enough yet.
