DAVIE – Several Miami Dolphins defensive backs have identified a leader in the group and on the team and it’s a player that hasn’t even received a helmet yet — Chris Culliver.

Culliver will miss at least Miami’s first six games on the physically unable to perform list as he continues to rehabilitate from torn anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments. Culliver signed on August 10, but isn’t permitted to practice or even be issued equipment.

But as one Dolphins defensive back said when asked what player is leading the squad as they face a 1-3 hole: “Cully. No doubt. It’s Chris Culliver.”Culliver has played cornerback in two NFC championship games and in Super Bowl XLVII agaisnt Baltimore. He is vocal, engaged and has taken a coaching role seriously.

“Sometimes from the coaches to the players, there can be some breakage,” Culliver said. “So I just try to get more information from coach to try and relay it to them. To make their job easier. I try to help them however I can. I’m not out there so I try to stay in their ear with that I see.”

If in fact we gave this guy a Leadership role speaks volumes to the makeup of our roster. A leader is someone like Jones or Wake. Not some often injured, homophobic hasn't played a down player

He's a good player taking a leadership role, how many of those do we have? His LBGT views really don't matter to me

Jones is a leader for sure. You see it on the field and on the sideline. He has a great, competitive attitude. We need more like that.

Good to hear he is trying to help coach up the younger guys. I know to not expect anything from him but I'm optimistic he can help our coverage out

Not sure if that is a step up or not from Incognito.

Hmmm.... a misogynist, homophobic, injury prone CB on the PUP list is our leader in the secondary... this is really the best we can do?

We do have Pouncey as the "leader" of the o-line

Ozzy rules!!

The guy has played in more big games than the rest of our roster combined.
I don't care what he does when he is out of uniform.

Do you guys want to win? Or do you want a team of boyscouts?

Philbin went the boyscout route, look where that got him.

I'm glad to hear he is stepping up even though he cant suit up.

So,So very sick of the gay cry babies. Enough is enough already. This is football, and Culliver is a potential top 10 CB. Who cares what kind of off the cuff remarks he makes.

It's time for the fascist speech police to just cease and disist.

Take it easy bro. Whatever anyone here says doesn't really matters. 43 years since our last super bowl win creates a lot of frustration

Wait, why do we hate this guy? What did he actually do that I'm supposed to hate him for? If the answer is "he said some dumb things," then spare me that nonsense.

I've logged over 20,000 posts here, so believe me, I know about saying dumb things.

The misogyny part seems overblown as there only seems to be reference to 1 stupid post of his texts with fiends. They were dumb but I'm willing to bet 99% on this board have said worse things to friends about opposite sex. The dumb part was I think he posted it that's the real head scratcher.
The homophobic quote was bad very bad but he has worked to grow it seems as he did work with The Trevor project and has been supportive of gay players in other sports and of Michael Sam.
He seems like typical low to mid 20 year old who is growing and maturing.
These young corners need someone to get advice from amd Maxwells advice right now seems to be get paid then give up cause it don't matter. Much rather have them follow Cullivers desire to play early work hard to play again than to be benched and say it doesn't matter.
